New owners advice

Hey yall!

Im a first time ducati owner, as I recently bought a 09' 1198 from a vendor. I didnt really have the time or tools to do a thorough look over before buying. It only had 9000 miles on it so i figured it was a steal. I get home, ride for a few days, then took the fairings off for an inspection and see there is some oil residue on some of the engine parts. I look in and around and found that there is some oil seeping out from the block. I havent witnessed any smoke coming from the engine, nor are there any leaks. I just want to know how severe this is, and should I get it checked out.

It also looks like something ruptured and spilled into the interior on the right side, maybe they left the coolant cap off before riding? Pics are attached.

The nearest ductati dealer is 178 miles away. Any advice helps!

Gasket needs to be replaced
Thanks for the reply. Fudge! Im piecing together a story. It would appear that the previous owner may have been riding and left the radiator cap loose and it ejected, spilling coolant all over the inside compartment (the expansion tank was bone dry) and then perhaps he just kept riding thinking it would be ok, which then blew the gasket? Seems highly negligent but crazier things have happened. Thoughts? How sever is this type of gasket issue?

First and foremost i would thoroughly clean the engine bay. then i would idle it. take it up to temp.
monitor those areas you saw.
Smell to see if you can smell a coolant leak.
If all checks out put plastics on it, take it for a short trip.
Pull over, smell for coolant again.
Pull panel back off, check for leakage.
if all fairs out then you could be correct. I highly doubt the engine would sound fine if he over heated the motor and ran it out of coolant.

That was yesterdays mission. Wiped down the engine bay, flushed the coolant system (there was coolant in the system but it was rotten,) put new coolant in. Going to test it out today. More to come...

I took it up to temp today, the fan kicked on at 217F (it was disconnected upon first inspection) an no sweet coolant smell. However, i did notice a leak coming from the horizontal water hose joint. I was able to wiggle the joint enough to get a couple dribbles coolant to leak out, although the screws were tightened pretty good. Just a bad o-ring perhaps?

New to Ducati here. Picked up a 2011 848 Evo about a year and a half ago. The PO got married and let it sit for about a year. So, I only paid 2500 for it. After going though the fuel system, it ran much better than when I purchased it. But, not perfect. So, I drained the fuel system, ran it it until it was out of fuel. Drained all other fluids. Then covered it in my garage until I could get to it. It is now number one on my list. So, I am now going through everything. I am new to Ducati but not motorcycles. I have owned plenty over the past 40 years. While many people might wonder about my sanity on this purchase. I look at as a labor of love, on a Ducati that needed some attention, while learning something about these. When removing the bodywork today, I noticed this? Definitively not stock. Thoughts? Its not holding anything down.
