Hello: I was reading the forum this morning because I am 67 yrs and considering my first Ducati. I am an old motocrosser, having been driving Porsche for some time and have owned numerous other motorcycles. I am seeking the best experience for a bike and have always wanted a Ducati. Will probably not race but just want the thrill. Which Panigal would you recommend? What are your thoughts on buying used?
Thanks and Happy New Year!

Welcome!!! And congrats :)
I’ve had my 60 year old dad out on my 1299 a few times and he seems to enjoy it
I’d say you should buy whichever one looks the best to you, then treat it like a precious piece of art and park it in your living room to admire when you’re not riding it

Buy used. These Italians depreciate faster than anything else. First, decide whether you want the older twin models 1x99 or the newer v4's. You can easily save 25% off msrp buying an almost new v4 (any trim) or probably close to 50% off on 1x99 models.

In August 2019 I bought my 1299S with 1,800 miles in mint condition with Akra exhaust already installe. $16,172 out the door

then I had the dealer renew all fluids and install a bunch of accessories including the DucaBike Clear Clutch for $5,000

the nice Ducati leather jacket was $640 with tax

so I was out the door for around $22,000 for a lightly used 1299S

the new 2020 V4S is going to be closer to $40,000 out the door with accessories installed bc the Akra exhaust is over $6,000 to have installed

I think McLarens lose value faster than Ducati super bikes

I would highly recommend the V4. It is one of the best bikes I have ever rode.

None of the old low rpm ducati antics, as comfortable or more so than any other sportbike, and a thrill like no other.
