All,

I'm close to pulling the trigger on a new V2 but i'm finding some really great deals on 2019 V4S'. I've found several 2019's with less than 3K miles for under $20K!

I'm not an advanced rider, nor do I have plans to track the bike. I live in Georgia so we have some great mountain roads. Its hard not to consider upgrading to the V4S given the difference in components etc. Has anyone else been struggle with this decision.

Any input would be greatly appreciated!

If the price is negligible, I’d go for the V4S. The V2 is amazing but the V4S is just a beast! Also, the simple fact that you’re posting this question is evidence that you’re going to rethink your choice if you buy the V2.

I appreciate the quick reply! The V4S is way more bike than I need, and may be too much bike for me. I 'm concerned the extra power may actually reduce some of my enjoyment. I the only reason I'm considering the V4S is its seems like a good value. Once I pay all the dealer fees (freight and setup) on a new V2, a 2019 V4S is only about $1500 more.

Am I crazy thinking the extra power of the V4 will limit my enjoyment on the street?

For the street the V2 is all you need, in fact much more. I personally like a motor i can use on the street, I just feel the V4 is too much. You cant row the gears. At least you can run 3 gears hard on the street with the V2. I had a 959, I track an R. The 959 is usable power, still too much for the street.
That being said, i got the 950s multistrada for the street vs the 1260 for those reasons listed above. I can use the motor, expose its power on the street. I can run deep into 4th gear and not be going 160 mph. The old saying, its more fun to ride a slow bike fast than a fast bike slow plays into this well.

YES IT WILL - especially if you are worried about your talent level. dont get me wrong that V2 will get you in trouble quickly.

Agreed with the listed above.

To add to it, my opinion will also cover another factor to consider, the overall seating position and the "feel" when you are sitting on it. I definitely think V4 has a more "comfortable" position in a sense the tank is larger and rounder in the crutch area, but in the same sense it feels "wider" when you hold the grips and look down. So it will be more work sort to speak to get it thru the twisties. I have the V2 and that thing is light, narrow, nimble, and that is only talking about the body size. Akra slip ons and its plenty loud, pops all over the place. The power is definitely there and it is all you need for the street, and more.

I would say see how it fits you when you are on it. A test ride will answer that question. The power is there - no matter which one you go with.

I've done demo rides both but not long enough to really get a true sense of "comfort". I'm definitely leaning towards the V2. It will be plenty of bike for me and I can use the extra $ towards the slip on and CF parts ;).

Always been the top-of-the-line superbike guy, and I don’t find an issue using my 1299S as a daily driver. The one aspect I like about the V2 is they brought back the shinny aspects one would find on the 916, 996, and such; upto the 1098. The wheels are shinny in the V2, rather than the matt finish I believe is on the V4. Not sure about the electronics, but I’m happy with the big bike and wouldn’t change.

Good luck and keep the rubber side down.

I think I’m very late to the party here. I was going to say have you considered a used 1299s instead of a V2?

Just here to second that the 959/V2 is too much for the street. Second gear is good for, like, 80 mph. You can’t do that kind of speed safely on the road. At least, I can’t.

Just got back from a 1200km ride over 2 days on my new V2. It's a fantastic bike; but needs to be ridden on the track to make the most of it. Here, the tracks are starting to re-open and I have a date with Phillip Island. Can't wait.

The same can be said of pretty much all sport bikes, but you can def tell Ducks are built for the track and to go fast.
