i placed a deposit for a '13 White Base, and was told all base now come with ABS, and there wont be any Non ABS Base for the US
anyone getting the same info?
thanks

Yep, that was what I heard last year when I bought mine. Only North American 1199 had ABS as an option. I was told it was going to be no longer an option from 2013 onward... just like the rest of the world.

Now, you HAVE to pay for it.. I, of course, did not buy a 1199 with ABS.

Unless you're trying to save a couple bucks, ABS is nice to have. Those couple bucks could save your ass one day.

I agree that having ABS is a nice safety net, but I don't think that not having it on my 1199 will cause me to have an accident weather in the dry or the wet. I know of a few cases where having ABS on the bikes did not prevent a nasty fall/crash.
I've been riding motorcycles from the age of 16, both on and off road and aside from my BMW S1K, Ive never owned a bike with it, have just learned to ride all my bikes with out it and not for saving a couple of bucks either.
Maybe I've been lucky up to now or maybe I've honed my riding skills but I have never crashed, because of the absence of ABS,(pushed too hard on a few track days) Ive locked the tires a few times but have made out alright.
If you learn to tone down your riding as the conditions around you change you will have a higher probability of making it though fine.
just MHO...I don't ride like a grandpa either lol..:D

It honestly hasn't kicked in unless I did it on purpose. Even in a couple of OH .... moments (other drivers), I did a stoppie and everything worked out ok (race mode so no anti lift lol) without ABS kicking in. Just nice to have in case, and it lowers my insurance a little :).

I have been riding since 14 and like to push my bikes pretty hard. The two times I went down could have been prevented with abs... Almost certain. You are correct that it isn't a catch all but has saved my bacon at least a couple times where I was invisible to other drivers.

I don't think that ABS should replace good riding skills and a mature attitude.
That being said, I had heard there was going to be a company transition to standard ABS, so I elected to buy my 1199 with this option in hope for slightly better resale attention and/or value compared to those models without.
I know some would say you should love the bike for what it means to you, but I've eventually sold every bike I've loved. In fact, I had to trade in 3 bikes to get my beautiful 1199.

I just got a killer deal on a leftover 2012 base ABS. They said that the 2013's will be out in a couple of months.
Even though I could have got the non ABS for less and the low APR promotion, I'd rather have ABS and not need it than to need it and not have it

a base non abs model is the lightest bike out of all the models.....leds weigh 7 lbs....abs 5 lbs....not sure how much lighter the forks are but they are lighter than the ohlins.....my dealer had weighed both n said Ducati false advertised weights being the same

get rid of the 2 cats, carb cannister, and AIS unit, i am sure you drop another 2 or 3 lbs, but who's counting anyway. and all the lights too

Dropping the cats alone makes up for ABS and the LEDs. The Marchesini wheels are also marginally lighter. The mirrors are also a lb or so each. I'll be installing my AIS plates when I get the rest of my parts.

I can't understand why anyone would buy this bike and not get all the electronic aids? It happened in Australia with the first BMW S1000 RR the electronics and abs etc were optional as no one knew what the take up would be. Within one year you could only get it with all the aids, as the take up was so high.
On the 1199 Ducati here did not even bother all bikes come standard with such niceties as ABS, so maybe this is what is happening in the USA.
Although I am sitting in NY right now, and I see how much you guys love your options and "sides".

Cheers

i posted this just to verify on the info, not because i wanted to cheap out the 1k, i went for the ABS anyway as that didnt bother me, its the matter of having choices, everyone has their own reasons to pick different options as they see fit.

The Ducati web says....

It's an option on the 2013 1199 & on the 1199s. Standard in the Tri-color.

It's still an option here in South Africa. If you want one without ABS you must specifically order one. They don't bring them in without a pre order and deposit. I'm a little skeptical about all of this electronic assistance. I enjoy knowing my and my bike's limits. I get my Base with ABS in 2 weeks, so I guess we'll see then.

The sales guy at my local dealership said that there will be no non-abs models in 2013, for what it's worth.
