Never knew they made any without a number
Just saw one
Very nice
Love the carbon fairings
Fit and Finnish very nice

There were a few prototype/demo bikes that were made that were " /500" (i.e. blank).
000/500 is an actual bike (the range is from 000-499) so blank was used for the demos.

Did you see it for sale? Or with a private owner? I always wondered what would become of the demos for such an expensive bike, but assumed it would be prohibited to sell (that basically the factory would reclaim them and use it for parts, or museums).

They sold one of these up the sunshine coast...I was told originally that they made a few without numbers as "spares" if something happened to the numbered ones. Once the numbered ones were all delivered they sold the "spares" for about 10k less (in Oz)

I'm sure they didn't

Paul
Why would you say that ?
I stood next to one today. No reason for me to lie. It has 1000km on it and is for sale for 80k.
When I saw it I immediately looked to see what number it was. Guess what, no number.
Warren Fraser himself explained that 10 of these came into Australia. They still have another one for sale with zero kilometres.

I was also shown Casey Stoner's 2007 MotoGP bike.

That's exactly what the importer told me today

This refers to Ruleys post

Where is this for sale? :D

The only 1 that I know off is a Pre-Production model which is .../500. It sits at the factory as a show bike.

Well, I haven't been to Aussie in a year now.... Guess it's time for another road trip!

Hey BigBoost, if you decide to buy another SL and turn it into a track only bike I might be interested in buying the seat/subframe/tail section from you. ;)

Big Boost,
I noticed on bikesales last night that there is another one here for sale in Sydney. It's number 244 I think.

Ducati UK have a road registered SL with no yoke number. I saw it in the pit lane at Silverstone Moto GP the other week. I understand that it has been on loan to a potential customer since 2014.

Another escape from Area 51.

I have seen a non numbered one here in the States for sale. I am curious does it have the same resale value as the numbered ones.

If I recall correctly, the XX/500 and/or non numbered ones are the ones they sent out to be ridden by journalists and for promotional material. They don't carry *as much* resale value because they've probably been ridden a little harder/treated a little more poorly since the people who have ridden them were not the owners and weren't worried about keeping an investment safe.

I think that’s correct about the XX bikes, but not the numberless bikes. The numberless bikes for sale have delivery miles and are in a crate, so never ridden.
