These are a fairly light weight denim (11oz) for riding (especially considering no kevlar). I use my vanson jeans (2 layers of 14 oz denim with 1000 denier cordura added for fun) when I am on a dedicated non-aggressive ride (ie, not commuting).

Also, if these are two "heavy" you can also go with the Deus Ex Machina recommended 3sixteen's, which are 17oz.

Of course, no padding in either of these examples, but they may protect you from a burn.

The issue with Vast is nyc traffic kills the bike and rider just non stop start stop and watching for crazy taxi drivers trying to kill you, once you get moving above 30mph there is zero issue but trying to get out of the city at times can be hell and while most riders filter through traffic it's still a traffic violation and you get ticketed.

It's one of the main reasons I don't rude on the street that often and stick mainly to track and dirt bike ridding.
