Hey guys, I'm new to the Ducati world.
I'm going to do my first oil change.

Can I use Mobil 1 synthetic oil??

Mobil 1 Racing 4T is what I use....10000kms on it and it's not blown up!

Opinions on oil are like...well, you know...but most experts advise waiting at least 500 miles or so before switching to synthetic to get the best possible (early) break-in (synthetic too early delays the process and may even cause glazing). I just changed to Castrol synthetic 10w-50 at 500 after changing it the first time at 150 miles with standard Valvoline.

no you can't - there is only 1 approved oil for the Ducati and its Shell

All other oils will void your warranty and cause engine leaks..(google it)

I just take my bike to the local jiffy lube and get the special they are running at that time... faster and cheaper that way, the knocking also goes away after some time

This question is actually one of the most potently difficult math problems ever devised by Man.. Think Schroedinger's Cat mated with Fermat's last theorem and then multiply it by Pi.

The answer has multiple states of being and exists in a multiverse, where every possible answer across the space/time continuum can be yes, no and every other shade of maybe that can be calculated.

After much time on a Supercomputer and using my own multi-processor based system with Nitrogen liquid cooling and a patented oil questions algorithm, I have the answer.

42.

Yup, 42 is the correct answer.. Oh, hold on.. I took the output from the wrong Supercomputer.. Sorry.. The real answer is ....

YES!

:D

All I can say is, I've never seen used oil look this bad, and this is my second purge (150 and 500 miles) - I don't know if Ducati is just really generous with the assembly lube or their manufacturing tolerances can't match the jap bikes (I suspect a little of both)

Purge it early and often - 650 miles is way too long

sounds like Ducati sold you a bad bike you should probably trade it in for a jap one.
