Hello everyone,

I was doing a regular oil change today, removed the bottom fairings and realized that some oil had dripped down on my exhaust pipe. I tried to trace the leak but couldn't find out where it comes from. I wonder if it could come from the vertical head cylinder.

Has anyone encountered anything similar before?

Thanks in advance,
Greg

its your valve cover...remove the plastic cover and youll see it...nothing to stress too much over, just wipe it down after rides...next desmo it will be taken care of...or if you want, remove it and reseal yourself...

Thank you both. That confirms what I suspected. Given that it’s leaking too much oil to my taste and that I’m afraid to get oil on my rear tire, I will replace the gasket (and it’s cheap).

Thanks again

Don't forget some Loctite on the cam cover bolts to help prevent future leaks 😉

I’ve seen this happen on the 1199 before, and it’s not uncommon. If oil is dripping onto the exhaust, the vertical head cylinder could definitely be a source, especially if there’s a small leak around the valve cover gasket or the breather hose. Another possibility is oil seeping from the oil cooler or one of its connections, it’s worth checking that area too since it’s close enough to drip down.
