Picked up my 1199 ABS last week and covered 200 miles so far. Just looked at the oil level and looks to be on the bottom line.

Anyone else have this?
What oil do you top up with? Shell Advance 4T Ultra like it says in the manual or is is different oil when running in?

Love this thing, awesome bike!

Sounds about right ...Ive used around 1 litre and im at 1500 miles ...Use the Shell stuff its the best :D

Dealer just said I can top up with any good quality fully synthetic oil.

They use Rockoil on first service.

What's best, Rockoil or the recommended Shell?

During my break-in period, I had to add oil after every 100 to 150 miles, but I rode VERY hard during break-in.

My dealer said this was very typically, so I would recommend after each 100 miles to check your oil.

I put in the same oil the dealer put in my bike.

Mine consumed about 200 cc's between 0 miles and the 600 mile service. The oil level has not changed since then. Most of the oil was burned during the first 200 miles. After that the start up smoking stopped. I knew my rings had seated when the smoking stopped. Since then oil consumption has been nil.

Thanks. That's good news. Purchased some silcoline 15w50 fully synthetic. Required 120mls to get it to the correct level. I'm keeping my eye on it like a hawk!

Dealer said the oil in the bike at new has crap oil that burns up.

wow that's a new one from a dealer, they use Shell oil think the reason it may burn oil at first is the valves aren't seated yet.

.

Put another 300mls in at 370miles, so that's 420mls so far. On 470miles now, better check it again. This clocking up the mileage thing is painful. Can't wait to open her up!

I've done 700kms no oil added...my dealer said unlikely I'd need it he reckoned check when hot as well, not cold? makes sense to me but contrary to manual I believe.
