Took my old bike out today. This one is 40 years old. Did not look like this when I got it and still some to go but a real labour of love. Like going back in time for me. When I was 18, I was on a long ride up in the northern part of Australia, I met another rider who had a Ducati Darmah and we swapped for a while. It was a different model to this one but same engine and characteristics. At the time I was riding a 1976 Kawasaki Z900A4. (Still had a rear drum brake on that one. Now when I get on this one it reminds me of that trip all those years ago. These are a lot of fun to ride. Makes you appreciate all the advancements in our current bikes. No quick shift, no ABS, no gear position indicator, no electronic suspension, no fuel injection. Air cooled with fuel taps you have to remember to turn on and a choke lever to get it started. At least this one has an electric start. :)

Nice!
I was in Sydney in 1979, back then a you could pick up a Darmah for a grand!

The second hand Kwaka 9 cost me $1100 AUD in 1979. A Darmah was about $3000 new then. The SSD was a little more but only about 200 SSD ever came to Australia and only about 1200 to 1400 made in total depending on which book you read.

The most wanted Duke was the 900ss followed by the 750ss, The purists thought the Darmah was a cop out and went though a period where they weren't so desirable, but I think I was wrong about the Ducati I test rode, I think it was an 860. I remember an article in Two Wheels about the Ducati for a grand, jeez Im feeling old and crusty now!

Love it! Old bikes have that coolness factor that is impossible to match with newer machinery.
