Hello Everyone,
I'm new to the forum and i have a Panigale s.The dealership that i picked up my bike from performed the break in on the dyne and the first service at 97 miles.Yesterday right after riding for the first time i noticed a leak coming front the bottom that looked like oil or antifreeze so then i checked the oil level and saw that was way overfill.Do you guys think that could cause the leak?and if yes could damage the engine?

Thanks:(

Yes , and Yes. A DYNO is not a proper break in. And if THEY overfilled your case , they are liable for any damage. If YOU overfilled it , good luck.

Use the top of a spray bottle with the tube immersed in the oil to pump the excess oil out of your bike. Get it to the desired level and check for leaks after you ride it.

Just hearing this makes me want to kick some ass. I had a dealer overfill my bike.

I never thought of using a spray bottle, always used a big syringe, learned something!

why isn't a dyno a proper break in?

The myth of running in a engine is just that, you just vary the load, no need to baby it or anything like that so i don't see why you can't do that on a dyno

If you have a penis pump, it can be quite handy for this too.
Regarding running in, apparently it functions as heat treating the engine gently to harden it further before wringing the neck out of it, and is definitely recommended. Apparently even race teams do it.

recommended and required, two different things.

I always thought dyne break in's were done out of convenience . E.g. its snowing outside

I just assumed race teams did it out of necessity and because it would be logistically impossible to do it on the track.

The dyno applies a load on the engine. Look closely at piston rings. They expand out with load. More load equals a better seal when the rings get pressed out.

The piston rings must seat before the crosshatching on the cylinder is worn to normal. A dyno will do that perfectly every time.

All high performance engines, and life safety engines, should be dyno tested or load bank tested when new. Ducati dyno tests your bike at the factory, no break in required.

You also need to hit max RPM to get a proper break in. Only a small percentage of Panigale owners have the skill to properly break in on the street or track. It's just not safe. Even then, it wouldn't be a properly metered break in.

I would not accept any sportscar or bike engine that didn't come with a dyno or load bank test sheet. And in the case of more expensive cars, I'd have the dealer deliver the car to me AT the dyno facility.

yeah - mine just came back after 600 mile service and had same overfilled engine - tried the pump bottle method but ended up using a syphon; pump bottle wouldn't work.

i went through the oil fill hole and didn't appear there is anything to damage in there as long as you stick to sliding along the side-
