I'm relatively new so please excuse me if this sounds like dumb question. I'm looking at buying preowned 2018 PV4S vs 2020 PV4S (or New 2023 P V2, I understand V2 is not on the same level to compare but please read fully and share your thoughts). Saw few recalls for 2018 models, are there any major issues that I need to be aware of? My use is about 60% weekend rides (twisties), 40% Trackdays. I read the 2020 shuts down few cylinders when not used, I couldn't verify the same for 2018, does 2018 have the same technology? I also read the electronics on 2020 makes the ride much easier but wasn't able to determine easier to ride on track or street. Do the wider fairings (for cooling), wings and electronics make noticeable difference for an intermediate level rider? I don't race, just do lots of track days on intermediate level (maybe I'll be doing experienced by mid next year).
.
A few of you may ask why am I considering 2018 when the price difference is not much, that's because the dealer selling 2018 provides track support on track days. If I go with 2020 I would miss on track support. So trying to evaluate if the benefits out weigh the track support and I should just go with 2020.
.
Other option I have is to go for new PV2 again. I had a PV2 for a year (had an accident and bike is totaled, hence the new purchase). I think I was able to extract about 60-70% of its potential. Very happy with the bike, except on track (and sometimes on street too) I felt I need a motorcycle with higher rev range. So just worried if I'll outgrow it soon.
.
Keeping in mind you wouldn't want to change the bike for another 2-3 years, what would be your choice? I know it's a personal choice, but looking to see what are y'all thoughts are. Below are the differences between them, if you have or ridden a 2018 or 2020 V4S or both, please share your experiences. And also can you share any know issues with the either of these models that I need to aware of before buying?

TLDR: What would you buy if you had option between preowned 2018 V4S, 2020 V4S and New 2023 V2?

What's "track support on track days" and what's the value of that to you?

2020 V4S.

Thanks for the reply.

What's "track support on track days"?
Like bike prep (taping, safety wiring, etc), dedicated garage space, taking your bike in and out, put them on stands, tire warmers, check and manage your tire pressure (to your preference) every session, mechanics on site to tweak if you need any small changes or if you have a minor slide, they work on your bike on site to get you going asap. Can I do most things needed by myself, yes. I experienced both with and without the track support, and the track-days with track support are much easier and you are not all beat up by the end of the day.

Maybe if I was racing I'd want the track support. I like doing stuff myself so I know exactly how it was done. I can see the draw though. I'd imagine its limited of course to the tracks the dealer shows up to and when they show up. The closest track to me is 300+ miles and I like the notion of going to different ones.

That makes sense. I like perspective of value and availability of the support. Thanks!

“I read the 2020 shuts down few cylinders when not used, I couldn't verify the same for 2018, does 2018 have the same technology?”
Yep all the same, all V4’s switch off rear their cylinder bank when idling above set temp to prevent overheating.
I’m surprised Ducati does not program our ECU’s to do the same when coasting on the highway, like many premium/ green VAG cars do. Should improve mileage considerably when only touring…

“I also read the electronics on 2020 makes the ride much easier but wasn't able to determine easier to ride on track or street.“
No experience with later PV4 models, I’ve toured and raced my 2018 PV4s anywhere for the last 25k even OTR, if required! :)

On my channel some inspirarion and confirmation of the PV4 its amazing versatility:

Fazit: no issues at all to ‘control’ her. Just a lot of manly bla-bla imho. After all it’s just about throttle control aka your “twist of the wrist”? ;)

Easy touring I do on ‘Wet Evo’ mapping (aka OEM factory default ’Street’) this smooths out throttle response beyond comfortable and too easy to ride.

“Do the wider fairings (for cooling), wings and electronics make noticeable difference for an intermediate level rider? I don't race, just do lots of track days on intermediate level”
Well this is a matter of taste too. Besides the cool looking functional shark-gills of the later PV4’s, I like the original slimmer fairings especially without ridiculous wings for road-use, much better. My Bella gets hot, but not too hot if you keep the pace. For sure the wider shark-gilled fairings - as initially tried and tested for the PV4R - are more efficient shedding some more heat away from the V4 engine-bay. But as said keeping up the pace as designed works fine too for road- and track-day use.

2018 has low mileage too. If she got all recalls and services done properly she is imho as good as any other PV4.
The rest is for normal use by us mere mortals marginal bla-bla? ;)

Primarily a matter of taste, price, preserved looks (wo. damages) and maybe remaining store/ factory warranty, if you ask me.

All Pani’s V2 and V4 are legends and will put a smile on your face and a chill through your spine every time you ride them and get feedback for by too many admirers!

Good luck choosing.
