I had a P2140 code and my bike won’t shift without the clutch. Anyone had that specific issue and can narrow it down fir me?

I strongly suspect this is due to intermittent strangeness with Domino racing throttles. I've tried two units and had similar codes with each, but never any with my OEM throttle.
Check this thread. Another rider with a Domino had that exact code: Panigale V4: Limp Mode

Do you have the means to see what the throttle is outputting?

No, I guess I could buy it at harbor freight but I have another track day this weekend so I’m on a time crunch to resolve it.

I’ll probably just put the OEM throttke back on and see if that resolves it, I’m also replacing the front wheels speed sensor that’s been acting hinky, if neither of those resolve it then it’s probably the Quicker Shifter itself

Was hoping somebody (like ‘Rick’) haha, would say oh yeah I had that happen here’s what it is lol

Ricks saved my weekend a couple times like that haha

As an aside, I’ve been lucky in that I haven’t had reliability issues in general with this bike, BUT, it seems like all the electronic bits don’t like it when you push the bike fairly hard on really hot ambient temperature days.

If the weather in Italy is pushing the direction of R&D going on here, I'm guessing next year everything will be waterproof by default.
We've got the Siberia/Africa winds war going on above Tuscany.

Hi Steve. I was thinking, you may have have two separate issues here. Even if the Domino throws a code like this, they can be reset and I've not heard of these affecting quick shifting: it's either a warning, limp mode, or nothing. I would simply clear this code and not worry about it unless it comes back. If you do this and your shift issue remains, I'd guess your gear position sensor got fired during your 105F Chuck day on Sunday. Or it could also be the quick-shifter too, but I'd bet it's your GPS starting to give up.

Yeah I cleared the codes and it still won’t shift while the engine is running without the clutch, will with engine off.

I burned out a GPS before and it acted completely different. Wouldn’t shift just like now but it also turns off all electronic Nannie’s and doesn’t show which gear it’s in. So unless it’s a progressive sensor failure instead of a sudden complete sensor failure it’s not that.

I have an extra GPS though so I’ll put that on there and put a new front wheel suspension sensor on there and see if that fixes it. Pretty easy to test that.

I’d replace the wheel speed sensor, set the tire calibration to default then do a fresh tire calibration before touching anything else if you know that part is faulty.

Will it blip on downshifts?

Yeah that’s also the easiest to get to and try ;-)

No, gear won’t move either direction unless clutch is engaged while engine is on

where is your clutch micro switch? along with your error code, that switch i think could give you issues if discconeected

Starting the bike in gear will tell you if the clutch switch is engaged.

I don’t know if a Harbor Freight code reader could see the clutch switch or throttle/twist grip values since it would have to read Ducati’s CANbus.

P2140 is the the plausibility check of the two voltages coming out of the twist grip. If you are running a Domino, then this part is the issue. If the codes resets and does not return immediately it should not cause the quickshifter blipper to stop working. Only things like the clutch switch could cause that. Unplugging the clutch switch does not cause any issues except that you can only start the bike on Neutral then. If it still does not function, change the HM back to OEM sensor.

Thanks guys, all sorted.

And thanks Daniel for taking that call ;-)

Was the HM shifter sensor failing, which was then sending faulty voltages or readings to various other sensors. We put the OEM quick shifter back on and everything is working fine.

The strange codes like a faulty throttle control sensor and other codes confused what should have been an obvious fix lol

In the end, The Quickshifter wasn’t working….because the QUICKSHIFTER wasn’t working 😂😂😂
