Pani Down

The other essential thing about a rider down. DO NOT remove the helmet unless you've been trained to do it properly to enable keeping the c-spine intact. Pulling a helmet can do huge damage to a cervical injury.
Otherwise good idea to wait for EMS. keep the rider on the ground .

Of course if airway is compromised you pretty much to remove it.

a great motorcyclist article: http://www.motorcyclistonline.com/features/122_0008_motorcycle_riding_emergency_preparedness_tips/
looks like a pretty good vid here:

Sorry to hear this news. Hoping for a quick recovery and no motor limitations to your friend.

Sorry you had to witness this. A friend died in front of me a few years back. It still messes me up. I hope your friend has a complete recovery. And hope he had good insurance.

Update on the rider - he will wear a back brace for 12 weeks, no surgery required. They are starting him on real food and physical therapy. After what I saw, a miracle that's all that is needed :)

That is great news. Miracles are always good. Best wishes and fast recovery!

All - update on rider. Ok, this was Apeluv, the other forum Pani guy here in St Louis. I wanted to get his permission before I posted his name. He sounds ok, and is now wearing a neck brace. Will be back to work in a week or so. Has very little memory left of the day or a few days after. He is anxious to get a totalled settlement from the insurance company, so he can get a new bike. The only problem, is he wants to upgrade to an S or R! Really silly when he already had the best model! I am sure he will post again here soon. Thanks for all your well-wishing, I am sure he appreciates it.

Wish our brother a quick speedy recovery.
Next time I'm in St. Louis on business, I will ping you guys so we can enjoy a beer, some wine, or strip club together. My treat.

It took him an accident to realize that S is faster/better than Base??!? :D

All seriousness, I am glad that he is recovering and that he is looking for another Panigale.

'Prolly realizes he's not up to riding a base and so maybe something a bit more toned down (like an S). Can't fault someone for admitting their limits. ;)

Glad to hear your friend is going to be okay. :)

That picture is rough. I'm glad he's more or less ok and no one lost an appendage (saw someone lose a foot for example). Lost a friend last month actually.

wish him the best from me. having been in the hospital too often in my younger days and always come out well (not 100% sane), i can only wish that as well to other riders.

tell him to stick with the base, if it's not the R.

he can't get any better bike :D
