Panigale 1299 vs Panigale 899, which one is louder?

Ducati Forum

Help Support Ducati Forum:

V4 is pretty loud. It’s super impressive at idle when it’s only firing on 2 cylinders then it goes back to firing on all 4.

I’m surprised the 959 shoots more flames than 1299, my 1299 is very spirited with flames so the 959 must be over the top
I love the sound of the V4 but holy .... its expensive as hell to achive that sound at this moment with the V4...

Yeah you can tell the 959 a bit louder then my 1299, I feel like the tuning and the exhaust system on the 959 is dialed in and to the max, and so was the 1299s but it Was tuned more for power, making 210whp where I tuned the 959 to make a bit more power but to be more of a hoonigan & really dial in power curve and shifting, the 959 is a savage lol its holds its own for sure in the sound wars against other litter Bikes, but all in all the V4 with akra cans takes the W, and heres why... it has way less sound dampening material in the cans compared to the shotgun exhaust in the 959/1299... if you want an even loader exhaust for V2 Panigales try, Vandemon exhaust. Looks the same as Akra, though its way lighter and can make a bit more hp for ya. Recently developed exhaust by idk who, but who cares bikes sounds savage... oh and its way cheaper then Akra.
i would give it a go with Termignoni or Akrapovic but im scared i might be disapointed after, its expensive upgrade, have to hear live 899s with termis or akra to make some decision, stock exhaust sounds pretty sick to me as it has high frequencies, mid and low (im a sound enginneer lol),akra and termi dont have hi freqs and having mostly low and mid frequencies it can trick your brain that is louder (because it sounds deeper without hi freqs), anyway im on my mission now to check other panigales with different exhaust set ups to see/hear whats really going on there.

You won’t be disappointed with this upgrade if you pop in a sprint filter and have the bike flashed

I like the look of the Akra but there are many great options out there.
My Akra is the Ducati Performance one with the official UpMap compared to the “evolution” system which does not come with the UpMap.

the UpMap is supposed to be engine software to make it work better with the more flowing exhaust, but it isn’t that great. Huge dead spot in the middle of the rev range. The only way you can get it running properly is with a ECU flash created from extensive Dyno tuning. The ECU flash is a mail in service from vcyclenut or maybe you can order a fresh new ECU with the files on it so you can hang on to yours.

sprint Offers an air filter for the racetrack for $350 and a version for the street for $100. I’d recommend the $100 one cause the streets are filthy
I think this mod alone increased a couple HP with factory tuning on the V4, so it actually is worthwhile. You can remove and clean it and it goes back in dry, no oiling like the old K&N

exhaust, air filter, flash. Noticeably more powerful and MotoGP sound.

the next step in noticibly quicker acceleration goes like this:
Lightweight sprockets and chain
CF wheels & lightweight rotors

I feel like this is about as quick as you can get the bike but eventually new Master Cylinders, calipers, clutch slave and Carbon Fiber lines. And of course top shelf suspension

then add a bunch of carbon fiber, then start replacing bolts with ProTi. If it’s still not fast enough you’re going to need a V4

In reply to the OP, idk which is louder but what i can tell you is that loud bikes are a pain in the ass. I put up with loud for the performance, if I could get the same performance with a quieter pipe than an akra then I would. The differences between an 899 or a 1299 are in the ear of the listener once a set of pipes goes on but I will say this- there is a larger volume of hot gas leaving the cylinder for every revolution and the noise we hear is the sound of the rapid expansion of gases causing a sound wave.

Sound is a pressure wave formed by vibrations. These vibrations are pulses of alternating high and low air pressure. So, every time your exhaust valve opens, a very high-pressured gas enters into the exhaust system. These high-pressure gases will collide with low-pressure molecules, create pressure waves (sound), and travel through the exhaust system. If you can introduce a pressure wave that is the exact opposite of the initial sound wave, they cancel each other out. When one sound wave is at its maximum pressure, the other sound wave is at its minimum pressure they cancel each other out this is called destructive interference and is what occurs inside your cans. Inside the termis or whatever there are tubes with perforations that direct the sound waves through the inside of the chamber then out the end. Sound waves enter the resonator chamber which has a very specific length in order to produce waves that will cancel out other waves. The resonator chamber’s length is designed so that when the sound wave hits the change in diameter of the resonator chamber and travels back through the hole in which it came, it will meet with the next sound wave exactly so the high-pressure sound wave that traveled through the resonator will join with the low-pressure sound wave. Every aspect of the design is to aid in cancelling out noise. Even the walls of a cans are specifically designed; they are actually able to absorb some of the pressure waves. Now, back to the tubes with perforations, these perforations allow thousands of tiny pressure waves to escape into the center chamber, bounce off the walls and cancel each other out. Basically, a silencer is specifically designed to control how sound waves bounce off its walls so they cancel each other out.

In other words its not so simple but the larger pots will create more gas and same revs so in theory a bigger bang.

so if i would put that 100$ air filter on my 899 would i get a different sound?

That’s why God created the turbocharger : )

Pull away from a light, click click (3rd gear 60+ only took a couple seconds and no one heard you do it) better chance someone pulls out in front of you. Around here there are millions of cars. Half of the drivers are not paying attention. Zero awareness. They might as well be asleep! They change lanes without even looking. The other half are selfish/self centered and impatient. I want a pipe that gets their attention. One that wakes people up and brings them into the moment

Loud doesn’t make power. And bigger is not always better. Unless yer a chick : )

its been proven that loud pipes do nothing for oncoming vehicles. Its a myth, you are far better driving defensively in traffic i.e every tin top is out to get you, every driveway is a threat. The stats show that most accidents occur at intersections and at low speeds but the fatals on bikes tend to be single vehicle accidents on rural roads

Every driveway IS a threat. And if you can’t see the driveway (parked cars obstruct view) the driver that’s gonna pull out of said driveway can’t see you. Loud helps lots. But I’m not gonna be able to tell you nuthin. You think Akra makes more power because it costs the most bahahahaha

Don14, I have akras because they do a good job, very well made and designed for the bike. I notice power difference between baffles in (soft up top) and baffles out. The sound is what it is, I love it but then again I wear high grade plugs at all times. My friends say they can hear me coming a mile off but what do I know?

My point is loud bikes do not save lives, they annoy people (except us!) It is extremely hard to heard where sounds are coming from and if you are in a tin top forgetabout it.
Suggest you check out bike crash vids on youtube that show absolute fuckwits in cars and on bikes that no amount of sound is going to help.

The van demon seems good but to me the cans on the end look a bit tacky, much prefer termis or akras for looks but check this for sound

this sounds sick, might be getting police attention all the time
