Hey there, I'm new to this forum. I am not new to Ducati, as I have owned a number of Ducati superbikes starting with the 888. I am now looking to purchase a Panigale R model 15'-17' and have seen a few good ones. I am curious as to why some have the Akrapovic symbol on the cans, and some only say Titanium. What is the difference? Appreciate the help!

Hi there. I own a 15 Panigale R. Basically, the bike comes stock with a Akrapovic exhaust, however this exhaust is meant to ridden on the streets therefore has a flapper valve and is not a true straight through exhaust. The stock exhaust says titanium only, however if you look more under the bike, the akra mark is written, but very hard to see while on the bike. My bike has the true straight through aftermarket Akra and this exhaust will show the akra symbol. Easy way to tell is, you see akra symbol, it is the aftermarket akra exhaust (the one you want, 4-5k dollar upgrade), if you see titanium, this bike is stock. If the price is the same, get the akra and when you pick up the bike, he should also have the stock exhaust in storage. hope this helps.

Awesome Thanks! This is very helpfu. Do you know if anything was changed or different between 15‘ - 17’?

The ecu supposedly kept getting better (tc wc lc etc) but 15-17 R models are meant to be track bikes, they all only have one compression ring, and they will require frequent engine rebuilds

If you are plan on riding it on the road and putting miles on it you may want to consider a 1299 instead

Hudson Valley Motorcycles in Ossining, NY has a '17 on the floor, same place I bought my slightly used R.

2500 track miles on my bike . 3137 total. Did valve check this fall after the race season, good to go, no adjustments needed. The R engine has better internals, bigger oil pump etc. Get the bike you want, ride it the way you want, period.

Thanks for your replies! Don14R according to Ducati specs these have 2 ring pistons..??? Kev242, thanks for the heads up. I have a good line on another one! If it doesn't work out I'll check that one out. 1299rFE, thanks. I will be street riding, and more importantly I will track it as I have done with all my previous Ducati's!

The community apologizes for Don. In addition to the annoying habit of hijacking just about every thread, he has a nasty habit of engaging the keyboard before the effects of the substance abuse have subsided thus creating a deluge of somewhat erroneous information.

LOL! Looking forward to more interactions with you guys!

Yeah Don has informed everyone with mis information on these bikes since been on here as well as replying to every single thread this is absolute nonsense. Don the only section you should be hanging out in maybe is the "Meet Up" section.

They do. One of them is a oil control ring that all 4 strokes require. There is only one compression ring tho and it is not gapless

Good luck with that set up on the street

Bad Don

Yes I have had two 16 R's and they leak track or street no matter what. Once they hit certain mileage and/or wear they will leak from the blowby even with the recall
done. They are not the best street bikes and really shine on the track. Good Luck!!!

Did you do a leak down test? What percent stayed in the motor?

Bigger oil pump? No. Bigger (heavier) crank. Bigger (heavier) rods. It comes with both of those : )

There are 2 oil pumps in these twins and every model got the same delivery pump and the same return pump. One of the first things I looked into when I decided to increase displacement

Don why you ask these questions that don't even pertain to these bikes? It's pretty clear you have never done the research on these or use the search engine tools before. You have been reminded before but man the drugs have really done a number especially when hitting the keyboard.

It's pretty clear...
Not pertinent to these bikes? Why is that? Yer bike has flux capacitor in place of 4 cycle reciprocating engine?

It’s pretty clear who’s ignorant and could benefit from some research

Yeah thats correct Don everything you have posted or talked about is absolutely useless to the guys that want to either learn or question about on here. Flux capacitor yeah "back to the future" is definitely more your speed it's 2021 man!!!

part number 96480891A for the accessory cans that fit the R. Spendy though, mine was nearly 5k extra fitted when new and if I had the R I'd live with what its got and save pennies for the Termi undertail.
