Sorry to have nothing to contribute to the post. But glad to see im not the only one who thinks don is a complete tool

my bike, 2015 R has 15000miles. I wanted to do a valve check and at the same time the front valve cover (will leak on the 1299 as well) had the slightest leak so I had them rebond both valve covers and valve check was complete with no issues. Now my bike is a mix of street and track, about 80/20. I have had a few issues, the thermostat decided to just stop working, its the same as the 1299, its made of plastic and is a dumb design. its a coin toss if this will fail or not. yes it has one compression ring and the manual says, it will need oil every 300 miles or so. I use trip A for mileage and I use trip B for oil consumption. Sometimes it needs it and sometimes it doesnt. I usually keep my oil level on the lower end because im balls to the walls 24/7 (less blow back this way). now the blow back, yes, the oil will find its way into the air box and want to find its way out. and yes the coolant blow by may blow oil as well, I have a faulty waterpump and my bikes wants to spit oil out of the little pin hole like a prick. but i decided to build an oil catcher (superleggera actually comes with one), this thing picks up all my oil blow back, once I see coolant mix, then im off to the dealer for a new water pump but until then im good. some tidy maintenance but the satisfaction it gives, ummmm maybe worth it. find a low mileage one, always have an extra liter of oil in your garage and a grand to spend when you need a new waterpump or thermostat or valve check. you will need one guaranteed

Awesome Thanks! This is very helpfu. Do you know if anything was changed or different between 15‘ - 17’?
simple answer, no change. ecu was upgraded to evo2 or something from 16 and on, but my bike has it. Its like a $500 ecu flash to get it, if you want it.

It’s pretty easy to picture

You know where the air box drain hose comes outta the bottom of yer air box?

(Left side - next to the throttle body for the horizontal cylinder)

He ran that, and a tube from the weep hole, into a catch can

*personally I would rather have a 13-14 12.5:1 motor that with 5% leakage than a 15-17 13.2:1 motor with 20% : )

No changes for the R from 15-17.

The 15-17 Panigale R (non FE model) is not eligible for the EVO update, however the 1299 is.

Went out to look at a 2015 R, seems to be a lot of confusion on this around the web and hoping you guys can help me. Did the 15 Dash 17 models come with cats and exhaust flap? My research says they did… Some other research pointed to immediate option at time of purchase to upgrade to full Akra exhaust without cats and flapper.

The sellers mechanic stated that all 15 Dash 17's came to America without cats?? That doesn't make sense to me, how do they get around the EPA, carb. My acknowledge the loophole, which would be send the bike over with cats and flapper, then immediately changed to straight pipe akra.

Didn't mean to hijack the thread just thought it was too small of a question for a separate thread.

All my recent bikes have been straight titanium exhaust with some type of software and it makes a world of difference to accurate throttle feel.

Any information, possibly with a reference, would be very much appreciated.

Yes the 15-17 R models did come with flappers and cats in the OEM system.

I did find this website and halfway down:
Exhaust2-1-2 full titanium system with stainless steel exhaust headers, catalytic converter and 2 lambda probes. Twin titanium mufflers with carbon fibre end caps

Just wondering if somebody if most of the bikes changed over to full exhaust? And I watch people grow older and I see

Thank you

Can anyone elaborate on the instant option, at time of purchase, to change to full Akra at dealer? ust trying to buy one of these and lotta guys are trying to tell me they have no cats and no flapper.

So as a rule of thumb: 1) if the exhaust states "titanium" then it has cats/flapper
2) if the exhaust states "Akrapović" then it's no cats/no flapper.

It’s my understanding that a few years back when you bought a new R model, the bike came with a second uninstalled “Race exhaust”. Sometimes the dealers would install them for the buyers. I don’t think that happens anymore though and a full aftermarket system would need to be bought independent from the bike. Depending on where you live dealers may or may not install full race systems due to emissions laws.

R model used to come w all sorts of gadget’s

Termi system, up map, 24° rake kit

Those days are long gone

Did you see the letter Ducati sent to the dealers last month? Crazy audits. First offense written warning then their burnt if caught again

Far as exhaust is concerned even if it really is a track only bike it’s not worth the hassle the dealers have to put you thru now. Not to me anyways...

Correct, when observing the exhaust with the fairings on:

Stock exhaust cans will only have the word "Titanium" visible
Unrestricted exhaust cans will have "Akrapovic" visible

All stock 15-17 Rs arrive with an Akrapovic Exhaust that include both the cats and flapper. The tubing for a full system is in place, you simply need to upgrade the exhaust cans and Y pipe (the kit specified for the 15-17 Panigale R includes everything you need).

I upgraded. The system is LOUD. Earpro is absolutely necessary. Boy does it sing...

Loud is a subjective term : )

I know right?

I call them mufflers and my buddies correct me

They are mufflers!

Twin 67.5mm outlets but there is perforated core and a lil packing ha

Oh that was wrong dude

Wrong on so many levels...

What I do to piss you off?

And where are those bushings @cycler

I didn’t even know who Phil was 6 months ago

I had the stock Termi underbelly 6 months ago

*are you on drugs?

**it might be junk but it’s my junk and no one else has that system cuz it’s one off. Your Akra is dime a dozen around here...
