Panigale R FTW!

Thanks for sharing.. The R was a full second quicker than the other two, which were only 9/100ths apart... A definitive win for the Ducati, I think.

Cheers

Nice lap time on the Panigale R! Interesting that Neil felt as though he couldn't do consistent fast laps on the Panigale because of how difficult it is to ride at the limit. It's what I always hear about the Panigale... fast but difficult to ride.

They said the R1M's traction control seemed to be getting in the way, but was the easiest to ride fast.

The RSV4 is good at everything.

If Neil has a hard time managing/being consistent with the R, how much more mere mortals

This just reinforces the point the 1299 is the best bike for the street.

MCN is great at getting these tests done before everyone else, RR World hasn't even released a base comparison yet

I'd be curious to see how the 1299S stacks up, since they felt the R was a bit of a beast to handle, would the electronic suspension of the S help that.

I think you missed a decimal... ;)

R>0.28 R1M>0.09 RSV4

So .37 front to back, and a win over one lap, but not over a series of 'em. And... not over an R1M with the available Race ECU fitted.

Good to see the Ducati at the sharp end, but I'd call that a near toss-up. I'd really like to see where the 1299S would have come in; a superpole-style session on slicks would have really shown what the R-spec brings versus the S with the cheater motor. Or not; hope someone manages to wrangle a pair of bikes for that shootout.

Nice comparison thanks for posting. I think they said the Pani R was $28k? A little off...

The only issue I have with MCN is Michael Neeves. He doesnt like the Panigale and he is always quick to higlight the quirks on the Panigale but fails to mention quirks on the bikes he prefers. We all know every bikes has quirks even on his favorite the R1 and previous S1000RR. In this video the data is the data and he cannot refute it and he seemed to struggle to admit the R is faster than the R1 but he is quick to throw in his last punch on the Panigale.

"We celebrate these bikes and the manufacturers that make them for making our lives a much happier place."

Amen.

I think it's a fair assessment, the panigale is a bit of a handful and you have to spend a considerable amount of time on setup to really get comfortable on it, the new R1 just feels easy is ride fast straight from the box the riding position and smooth engine just feel right and you can dial it in pretty easy, I haven't spent much time on the rsv to really comment

The Panigale just takes some time to get a handle on. My BMW S1000RR felt immediately comfortable and easy as soon as I started riding it, but there wasn't a lot more in it from that point forward. Easy but less ultimate potential in my opinion.

The 1299 needs some time to learn.. The engine works differently, the handling needs to be understood and set up to your personal preference and that takes time and tinkering.

Most of these tests are one day if that, and done. No time to really set things up to personalize it, play with settings, learn the intricacies and consequently, the bike that's easiest to go fast on immediately will tend to be the one the magazines choose as the winner. Simplicity will win over complexity and nuance in these types of test.

I think most "average" track riders would be faster on a 1299S than a Panigale R, it's a real handful, just like the Superleggera. Someone like Neil Hodgson can extract the most from it. The rest of us can pretend that we can, but in reality we're only at OUR limit, not the bike's.

Well that settles that then!

Panigale R wins. They are savage and aggressive bikes but I wouldn't call them hard to ride, you just need to learn what the bike wants from you. Once you get them dialled in though they are like nothing else. 1 day to be competitive on a bunch of bikes and dial them all in would be very hard.

Your track times comparison should be interesting

Good videos are "proof" and bad videos are filled with faulty circumstances. Still, no matter which video you watch it always comes down to at most 2 second difference with a professional level rider. I'd bet a dollar that the fastest bike will be the one you're the most comfortable riding at speed.

PREDICTION: When the Sport Rider test comes out, the R1M will win hands-down, but they'll say that it only won because the new Gixxer wasn't available yet. :D

As much as I'd like to see Ducati be as easy and compliant as "other brands" it is what it is. I won't miss a wink of sleep cause someone in a video isn't telling me its not the easiest or best. I bought this bike for pretty much the same reason I dated crazy ....... in school......looks and performance! Yeah maybe the librarian is the smarter choice to take home, but nothing beats the night you were out with the pole dancer...lol.

I never seem to hear stories at the track about someone romancing the time they owned a honda, or some other brand. I always hear someone come up and say, "Oh I owed a Ducati once." Even when they were real ...... to own maintenance pigs people seem to smile and remember good times.

Now from an engineering point of view, Ducati build quality, (materials and craftsmanship) is almost impossible to beat. Yeah things break and sometimes don't come off the assembly line perfect, but if you really go over the bike and compare it nothing comes close. Well....KTM is awesome too, but you get my point.

I love the end of the video cause Neevses Speaks the truth.... These bike are special and few can own them....the luck few of us.
