So last week i had my parked panigale backed into at school. lets just say there was 6k in damages done to the bike. kinda upset about having my perfect conditioned biked wrecked by a driver with out a clue on how to reverse. Long story short i seen the monster 1200s today and heard it with the termis!!! loudest and best sounding ducati to date! Was thinking about going to the dark side and getting a f3 800 but after seeing and hearing the 1200s im leaning with the monster. Any suggestions????? other option is keeping my panigale.

Crummy news indeed:(
Do you have insurance?

Mine was knocked over in a car park as well in December 2012:mad:
I think from memory it was about $7300 in damage.

Ride one and you might not like it. A friend of mine who has a 796 Monster was underwhelmed.

"There was something in the way of both my heels, such that I was sitting pigeon-toed on the pegs. It was incredibly annoying. I had read about this before, but never had experienced it, so I thought "how bad could that be?" It turns out, it's really annoying when you're riding. It makes it harder to stay on the balls of your feet and then move your feet to manipulate the controls. Maybe one could get used to it, but during my demo ride it did not get any better, and was a constant nuisance. How does that pass muster at the factory?"

Add to that:

1) Color TFT screen, but no gear indicator
2) Reflection on the screen made it hard to read
3) Clunky Transmission

In short, he left the dealership really happy to be back on his 796, so I can't imagine you'd be happy coming off an 1199.

Apparenly it has the same engine as the Diavel, i wasn't too crazy about it when i rode it.

It has a detuned version of the Diavel motor

Diavel has 165hp to M1200S 145hp

I concur with Antihero, I have size 11.5 feet and it was definitely annoying. What is even dumber is that due to the way they designed the pegs you can't do anything about it unless you change the rearsets completely since the passenger pegs are a non-removable part of the rider peg assembly.

Why they detuned the motor from the Diavel and MTS is pretty stupid to me as well.

Lastly, it just doesn't look nearly as good as the previous generation Monster.

All the above reasons are why I'm leaning towards the MV Agusta Dragster 800. I haven't ridden one yet, but I have ridden an F3 800. Based on that, I think the powerband of the 1199 and the 800 triple are more similar than you think.

I have a Tri and an AMG. I love them both but if forced to give up one it would be the Pani. On the Diavel I changed seat with custom done by Sargent and installed Ohlin's sprung to my weight front and back along with all DP carbon, Sato rear sets and love this bike for all around use.

I can ride the Diavel all day any day but the Pani requires little more effort. Not complaining, as I love the return performance but two different machines.

Anyone have the quote for repairs?
What's so expensive? I know the LED lights are a ton to keep base model riders from upgrading.

I'd fix it myself. Keep it, buy the Monster later. Or just get race cans for the 1199 for the proper sound.

I've watched every video I can and the front of the KTM 1290 Super duke doesn't do it for me. Neither does the price tag at $17k. If I want a rocket, I'll ride my almost fully prepped 1199 race bike. Is the only issue with the monster the foot pegs. I guess I need to find a local ktm and take a look see. The one video of the ktms on the track is bad ass, but I'm not sure I would track it. Decisions man......

Have an 1199S and just picked up an F3 800 a few months back. The F3 is a fantastic bike. Ride one before you make a decision.

My girlfriend has the 1200S since a month now. She switched from a 696.
For small people the new Monster is a phantasic choice, it's one of the bikes with very low riding position (two selectable positions and also a lower seat available) and still "enough" power. And it looks cool.

I think that Ducati did a great job to think about women as a market segment.
The footpegs position is really annoying and you have to get used to it.

I hope that Rizoma is going to solve this with a better solution.

Dash is almost unreadable in direct sun light, but who cares :)

Sportbike guys in general ride on the balls of their feet. I am the same and found the foot position annoying also. HOWEVER... I adopted the typical street rider position where you ride on the arch and the bike was completely different.

The motor is amazing. No way a 796 owner is going to be underwhelmed... I'm just saying when the bike in standard form has 35 more HP than the 1100, you take notice. Smooth and linear power and if you like wheelies... It is the easiest roll on bike that leaves you with a .... eating grin.

This isn't a Panigale. Not supposed to be. This is a street bike that is naked and has a heart. The dash is best used in the night configuration to read better in daylight. Most do not know to change it. And when you add the Termis... Love...

The Super Duke is rough. The lines are rough, the front headlight and that weird turn signal connector is awkward. The bike has a soulful motor, but is just not as refined and at the price, it needs to be more MV or Ducati in design and appeal. Bigger motor gets bigger power. But, that isn't all that matters in these types of bikes. You can have as much fun on the M1200S as the Super Duke. And, you'll look sexier doing it.

Agree 'bout the Katoom. I actually liked it in the vids but when I got to see it in the flesh is was disappointingly plain. One would have to spend a fortune to make it look like the pre-production model.

The M1200s was quite the opposite. Wasn't too crazy about it from the pics but saw it at COTA last week and was pleasantly surprised.
