Presuming there's no wiring fault with the gear position sensor, it likely needs to go through the relearn procedure for the gear position sensor. There are diagnostic tools you can buy to do it, or take it to the dealer who will probably charge you for an hour of labor provided there is nothing else wrong.

I don't know if 2019 bikes would have been effected by the recall for the gear position sensor, but that's worth looking into.

OP, do you have a code reader handy to pull codes and see whatsup? I would suggest you buy one of these:
Amazon.com: for Ducati 4 pin Male to OBD2 Female obdii Diagnostic Adapter Connector for Ducati Panigale Motorbikes : Automotive
and one of these:
Amazon.com: OBDLink MX+ OBD2 Bluetooth Scanner for iPhone, Android, and Windows : Automotive

And use any app like Torque or the native app that comes with the BT adapter to pull codes. If we know more about what the code is, we may be able to help you better. With so many electronic modules in modern vehicles, a high quality BT code reader will pay for itself very quickly.

I agree with RobertH, it looks a gear postion sensor failure. I concur with Tom Foolery, buy a generic code reader and the diagnostic adapter at least that will give you a more educated guess. The relearn is what the dealers do when they can't replicate the problem, then it happens again. Then when buying a new gear position sensor look into getting the cooling duct for the sensor, I believe there was a recall or a thread on here with all the part number and pictures to help with install. Pretty straightforward.

Thanks all for the answers.

should I ride it for a distance of 90 miles to the dealer?

Is it still under warranty? You shouldn't need to have it towed, the bike just won't display the gear posistion.

Perfectly rideable, just mind not to flip it - my anti-wheelie function was disabled when my gear sensor failed
