Pecco/Ducati 2022 Double World Champions

Sure, the first 2 laps he was in it. But then he gradually slid back through the field. Seems like you didn’t watch the race…

It was no NH69 podium on the last round.

He was trying to win a championship, not a race. All he had to do was finish 14th or higher and that only if Fabio won. With Fabio in 4th on the last lap Pecco could have parked the bike and walked back. He accomplished his and his team's goal.

It would have been a tragedy to make that much of a comeback after 5 DNFs to be on the cusp of winning the championship only to crash out. It just doesn't make any rational sense.

Pecco did have a wing ripped off his bike during those first two laps. Other riders have previously reported that missing a front wing can really de-stabilize the bike.

In the interview with Pecco post race, he said exactly that. I think he had no idea he lost a wing. "Was the hardest race of the year, my life. Around lap 3-4 I could no longer control the front end, I don't know why, was impossible..."
Those first laps were insane! Too bad he lost that wing - would have been even more epic a race, though, maybe it was better he just had to chill to World Champion.
We were at Borgo Panigale in a few hundred, pinching diamonds, every time someone almost ran into his back tire. All 6 of them!

At the factory. The champagne flowed a few hours after the win. It was pretty cool to be there.
The Ducati Museum is worth it btw, if you're in the hood. Very very cool collection, from DUCATI radios and photo cameras to motorized bikes and all the way up to the latest GP bikes.

I like numbers and by the numbers, the guy who won the championship yesterday definitely deserves the title. I don’t think you get odds makers to take much on a Fabio race win yesterday. Marquez in his prime and VR in his, would be more predictable but Fabio wasn’t going to win the title yesterday and fairly predictable, the race either. Marquez surprised me this year. Next year will be interesting.

On that note, next year Ducati has 8 bikes in the field. I thought there was a limit on mfg bikes but I don’t follow it that closely. Should be a wrap for the constructors champ with 8 bikes.

V nice photos, thanks for posting.

Davide Tardozzi addressed how many bikes Ducati had in an interview a couple of weeks ago. The TLDW version is that the other manufacturers aren't making bikes available and Ducati is getting a lot of interest. Ducati is merely fulfilling the demand.

In the same interview he actually apologized for how the GP22 bike behaved at the start of the season which caused Pecco and Jack to suffer in the first few races while the GP21 riders did much better. Hopefully, that mistake isn't repeated.

I watched that podcast where Davide was asked about having many Ducati's on the grid. And about them having a wealth of rider talent.Official Moto Gp podcast I think?

He actually thanked them for asking him Maybe he thought they would not ask hoping it would avoid controversy.

His explanation was great. And even a die hard Ducati hater IF you love Moto Gp should be grateful for his honesty. (paraphrasing here)
1. Other manufacturers do not want to supply bikes. EVEN for customer teams! So they ask Ducati. The Desmo is fast and well developed. And teams getting last years bike also will get all the data to accompany it! Which is a huge win!
2. Ducati made a decision a few years ago. To go find the riders who they believe will DEVELOP to be fast on the Desmo. Bring them up with DUCATI contracts and put them in customer teams. aka Pecco, Martin, Enea. This way they can nurture the rider in there system and more importantly get to know their rider 100%. This offsets the cost of just signing a big name proven rider who may not be a fit AFTER signing the contract. Ex; Lorenzo, yes he won late. But Claudio at that point went with Davide's recommendation to go full gas on rider development. (makes sense to me)

Davide also let it out that the GP 22 was not a good bike out of the box. And Ducati had to apologize to the factory equipped riders. As they saw guys on the 21' killing it early in the year. Hence all non-factory contracted riders Gresini & Mooney will be on 22's next season Jorge & Zarco will get 23's
Jorge got that in contract for not getting Factory Seat & Factory loves Zarco for his professionalism and development skill on Fridays and Saturdays.

Now I'm a massive Marquez fan!!!!!!! Guy is a legend!

But to make a comment about a "Ducati Cup" AFTER his brother signs to ride for Gresini on a DUCATI with all the 22 data is a ball bag maneuver IMHO.
And that is what I think sparked Davide's anger.

Yeah... I could not understand why he was mixing it up early on. Even if FQ had gone straight to the front Pecco did not need to be up there. And then he held Binder up long enough for Rins to have his farewell party.

I'm a Marquez fan but seems like it's going to be a long road back for someone who's 30 years old

He was trying to force an error from FQ which may have worked to some degree. It was great to watch his first 3 laps and then he fizzled out. Granted it was the right thing to do but boring to watch. I’m more of win it (Rin it?) or bin it kind of enthusiast

So ...is that why you are not world champion?
