Interesting thing happened today. I tried starting my bike whilmst it was up on front and rear stands and it would not fire.

Put it back on the floor under it’s own weight and leaning on the stand. Started first go, not a problem.
Sure it was a cold day and hadn’t started it for over a week but the only thing I could come up with was the sensors in the imu decided that while the wheels were floating it wasn’t gonna cooperate.
Anyone experienced this before can confirm my suspicions?

I expected it might have been a safety measure. Interesting... clever little things.

Nothing would stop it from firing in that situation, and on front and rear stands it only takes the weight off the tyres unless a headstock stand used.

So it’s just a coincidence that it wouldn’t start up on stands but would on the ground?
Hmm gotta get that Tuneboy flash worked out

You've never started you bike while on stands?
And sorry what is it about tuneboy?

Never, have you? My V4 is up on stands but the garage is sealed off with AC running so I can work on it. I’ll try later

Andy7 was messing with TuneBoy, I assumed that was the issue causing the bike to not start. ever since I flashed my 1299 and removed charcoal canister, it’s been flawless so I’m thinking this could be the culprit

here’s a question for @Andy7: was the bike hot when you were trying to start it on the stands or was it cold? My 1299 would stall when hot and not want to restart

I installed the Tuneboy on it last week and started it not worries.
Left it for a week since I didn’t have a chance to go for a ride.
I have started it no problems with the rear wheel raised up on the stand, not while both front and rear are up though.
Like I said it was cold - around 5°C at home but not below freezing and so I initially thought the Tuneboy was causing the problems. But as soon as it was off the stands started straight away. Really strange.

Have I ever started a Panigale on stands? yeah and you'll see a lot of them at the track. My 1199 was in mothballs on stands and wheels off for over a year while I played around with my 899 tidy up, I started it every couple of months to keep the spiders, ants and rats at bay (I live in Australia)

Put it back on the stands again and give it another try. Would love to know the outcome.

So I tried again tonight.

First try: both wheels raised = no start
Second go: rear wheel raised = no start
Third try: same as yesterday, bike on floor resting on kickstand = success

Now I ran it for aboit 5 mins, then killed it and put it back up on both stands again. This time it started no problem, likely because everything was already warm so my idea of being some anti-theft/safety feature goes out the window.
However I’m still not convinced its just the air temp until I try the remaining variable. Tomorrow is the finale and I will conclude the experiment by starting the bike with the wheels off the stands. *audience gasps*

Sure it may not be glamorous, but it’s honest work.

Gave it a good charge the other day. I haven’t got an proper trickle charger so at the moment I’m forced to remove the fairing to access the battery. I just did that and had it hooked up the whole time I was flashing it last week.
