Protection

As I've said several times in the form already I'm a complete newbie when it comes to Ducati. I'm concerned with protection for my motorcycle. When it comes to texting from crashes what combination do you guys recommend? Frame sliders, take sliders, engine guards, or what other combo works?

Search function isn't an incredibly helpful response when posted by itself. Maybe you offer advice and then suggest he runs a search, but when that's all you say, it sounds a bit assholish.

To answer your question, Pitbulll, since there is no frame, there aren't really any frame sliders. There are, however, pieces that act like frame sliders and can be bolted on to your clutch and generator cases. Whether or not they'd work well in a crash is questionable. Probably find some by R&G or Sato or something.

Some people use tank protectors, and most people use axle sliders and solid bar-ends. Bellissimoto is a great place to look for protection, but there's not much out yet specifically for the 1299. A lot of solutions for the 1199 and 899 will work for all though.

Thanks for the response. I did do searches and come up with a little on recommendations for protecting the bike. I seen some things that people lead personal use but nothing that was really giving me the direction I was looking for.

I have a '13 R with 15,200 miles of which about 6,000 are track miles.

I've had three lowsides at the track so I can give some suggestions on protection that can be useful in a nice clean lowside.

Keep in mind that any crash has the potential to go very unpredictably bad, so I have to say it--the best protection is not to crash.

I use Sato engine sliders--these are very very well engineered to not damage the engine or the mounting points but to absorb the force of the impact and bend--and um, slide.

I also have Speedymoto front fork protectors--they also are worth every penny.

I also very very very highly recommend the Woodcraft clutch cover--it is super tough--much more so than either the beautiful stock magnesium cover or the Ducati Performance carbon cover.

Rhinomoto bar end sliders are nice--and work well--but since I went with Oberon bar end turn signals I gave those up.

The forged aluminum Marchesini wheels are very tough--I recommend them over magnesium or carbon if you want toughness.

There are Sato frame sliders, which I have but they actually bolt to the rear shock mount and the clutch case and with those with the DP CF case covers, SpeedyMoto front and rear axle sliders, and DP CF swing arm cover.

Other frame slider options are T-Rex, R&G. And R&G also does axle sliders and tail protection. Other case protection options are GB, Woodcraft, and other CF options. Oh and as mentioned above R&G does have bar end sliders too.

Other items that can be added on top of that would be tank sliders (the good ones and not R&G) that can be searched for on the forum. Can't think of any other worth while protection off the top of my head. I would also recommend radiator guards from either Cox, Evo Tech or DP.

Not sure what's availible for the 1299 and what's interchanagble but these should be availible at some point or will work from the 1199.

Oh I forgot to mention I do use the Evotech radiator and oil cooler guards--very effective and easy to install--but not really crash protection.

I can also report--at least on the 1199 R--that the end cans and carbon fiber on the Akrapovich exhaust system are significantly more tucked in and much less prone to damage as compared to the Termis. Yet another reason to go with the Akras--as if you needed more reasons.
