PSA: Fuel Line Replacement Service Bulletin

Andy doesn’t know because it’s not his bike. It’s a CPC quick disconnect. Goodridge also make some. Looks like an AN bung was welded in in this instance.

BTW on the factory quick disconnects you must push them all the way towards the center of the t. Otherwise they won't release. Do this and they come right off.

I think I should clarify this cause it's counterintuitive. The pincers that grab the ring on the t reside in channels. The channels are tapered such that when the line is pressured and the disconnects move outwards the channels become shallower. When the disconnect is at it's furthest point away from the center of the t the channels are too shallow to allow them to be released. Push them all the way in and then push on the release tabs. Good design from a safety standpoint.

I purchased the set for the 1199 a few years ago from these guys below. They don't have a V4 set but they might be able to make something work.

The std plastic t piece is awful and fragile…
In fact tge std fuel line set up is cheap and nasty, but like the rear shock set up .. tacky!

Yep just trash. If they'd put a rocker in the rear like the belt drive superbikes they wouldn't have had space for the seat warmer. I have decided that riding all day with an air space between you and the rear cylinder head is way preferable to sitting on hot fuel heated by the rear cylinder head.

I'm laughing because I just went through this. Hose had a tiny hole in this hose after a couple of on / offs, fuel leaked everywhere and left this sticky oily looking residue over the side of the engine that looked like an oil leak to start with. I gather this was the bonding glue from the inside of the hose layers. I'll be using the quick connects next time but ordered 2x new hoses just in case. Not the greatest of designs.

I have this exact issue , it’s like a tree sap substance with no smell , I don’t see any fuel ether . It’s Nothing crazy but I do see a little bit of it near this fuel line. going to replace it anyway . There’s no chance this thick stuff is getting into the injectors right?

Yes, its called “varnish” and is one of the non-evaporating components of crap-level gasoline. A top-tier fuel should not leave varnish…

It wasn't fuel varnish that I experienced. Our 98 octane fuels (same as your 93) are all very decent over here.

I didn't experience any further issues after I replaced the hose. Fuel pressure behind the issue point would most likely negate that.

I only use 93 octane , and this situation only occurred since I had the tank removed . Oddly I’d cleaned the area thoroughly and i don’t see much leaking anymore but I’m going to replace hose and maybe run some fuel stabilizer or injector cleaner to the gas incase any of this thick stuff is the the lines . Any thoughts on this ?

Yeah the impurities are generally dissolved into solution such that they only fall out of solution and remain (visible now) after the aromatics and lighter compounds evaporate. All additives do is help keep them in solution until burned. You can help without additives by keeping the fuel sealed against atmosphere with no air gap in the fuel tank or storage container.
Otherwise you likely have “sprung a leak”, or spilled enough to puddle and evaporate.

Would avoid any stabilizer or injector cleaner. Manual say nada specifically on this
