Crazy that my dealer service guys also said that it was likely an alley head (when I showed them the picture) and even sold me one (And I bought it too). But Everyone is lost ... I guess? I even tried some of the allen head screw in the hole and it would just not take. This is a 2021 V4 .. maybe that matters?

Anyhow I guess I will just keep looking. Will check out the Omaha website

But is it a push pin fitting on the other side or has someone installed a pin into the screw fitting on the side fairing?

There are no push pins listed in the parts breakdowns for the fairings at all. The nut plate for the screw is missing, so someone(?) just popped the pin into the hole rather than remove the fairing to clip the nut plate onto the mating tab.

I have a 2021 V4.

They shouldn't be push pins. They should be screws. They will thread into a metal clip.

What Ducati calls "Quick Fastening" is this thing...

They a really common items used extensively in auto business. About 10 cents each but you have to buy a pack unfortunately.

Aah I now know what’s up. This is the doing of someone I ought to not have trusted with the bike… then again I did crash the bike pretty bad.

Thank you for your responses bp_SFV4 , really helpful. I did find that quick fastening thing in the parts catalogue and now it all clicks. I will take the bike apart this fall and fill in the work that is missing.

No worries my friend. If anything else comes up please post up and ask. There's a lot of knowledgeable people here willing to help.

The metal clip will clip onto the radiator shroud. When you dissemble it you'll likely see marks in the plastic from where the clip use to be.

just grab one from the other side and pop into an auto parts store or even the local panel shop who might just give you a couple if you ask.

A little alarming that whoever did the repair work used a push pin instead of the correct allen bolt and threaded plate. If it was a main dealer they ought to know better, than bodge the job like this.

Yamaha has used them for years. I would think based on where you found it, it wouldn't be a bad thing (easier to get the uppers off). The correct method is to use the same plate & 3 mm screw as the rest of the body work.
