for those having ideas or schedules to hold :

the R race seat is not the DP racing seat!

R seat is not the DP racing seat.
it is (just?) the standard seat covered in the DP raing seat tissue.

having done 280 km in the freezing cold and shod in the Multi suit i noticed that my legs were pritty cramped with the DP rear sets higher up... i blamed it on the touratech suit and the heavy all weather boots.. picking up the papers at the dealer i sat on a standard pani without the DP rearset and the DP racing seat... i also did not remember the aragon test being so folded up...

then i noticed that the DP race seat was significantly higher. then it was confirmed that the R seat, altough named a reace seat is in fact not a race seat but the standard seat with the cover of the DP seat...

so i had to buy the DP seat to get a bit of comfort... not very happy about that, but problem solved..

she's at 380 km now! and loosening up nicely...

Thanks, Kope. Does this suggest that Ducati is skimping on what should be (cushioned seat) or are they suggesting that the lower seat/stock seat is the better application?

Or neither?

don't think it's skimping, maybe they think the standard seat recovered is better for racing? I like my standard seat just fine.

size does matteR.

so i guess the seat is a personal choice... it's
the cover that makes it anitslip, so 'race' :)

il liked the standard seat with the standard rearsets in Aragon.
now with the DP rears, it's better to have the DP racing seat..

and i'm glad that the bike will have risers... :)

i should just have changed the pegs...

Is there an optional seat mine is hard too
I'm on 550km now and the bike is much smoother

DP comfort seat is supposed to be more comfortable, you can get from your dealer. It's much thicker than the standard seat.

Rider comfort seat - Ducati Superbike Accessories

FYI the DP race seat has more padding than the stock seat but less than the comfort. A number for threads about the seat options here.

race seats are made to hoover above them and hang to them for 45 minute stints... :)

I am a shorter guy, I would of traded you for the R seat! Hehe. You want to sell it? Haha

I love the way the bike sounds when you change gears
Do you keep the revs below 6 for the first 1000 km

You will get a wide range of answers, so do what ever you like, and I mean that. You won't heurt it, and some people will say it seats better. If you can't make up your mind, ask the service guy that will be working on your bike, and take his answer - but yes, a beautiful sound for sure :)

Anyone know where you can buy this R race seat online?
Can't find it listed anywhere.

Interestingly enough, I checked the Panigale R parts manual ( you can download free on ducati.com)

It lists the same part number for the pani base, S and R #59521081B

So not sure if that's the new construction seat for all bikes or not.

Unfortunately, it appears that's not really an R catalog, despite being labeled as such. List the same PN for the rods as my '12 base.

Great news - i just need an R seat, as all i want is a little more grip.

Any chance some kind R owner can read the part number of the underside of an actual seat?

You could try something novel like.....Read the manual and follow the recommendation of the manufacturer who designed the bike.

I did that and no problems with my bike. Smoking stopped a while ago and not using any oil.

AS to smoking: mine does not smoke a bit

apparently they fixed the issue for 2013..

Steve,
I just looked at that, the US spare parts catalog looks just like the S and Base model catalog, HOWEVER, the UK catalog is definately for the R (it shows the R model tank and the seat part number is also different:

R seat model number: #59521911A

So download the UK manual as it appears to be the right one.

My dealer/parts guy had no idea the R has a diff seat. :(
I am looking for an R seat too. Like the stock height.

Anyone know why my upper back hurts when using the comfort seat but only my ... hurts when using the stock seat. I understand the ... hurting from the stock seat but not why my upper back (not wrist)would hurt using the comfort seat.
