I just put about 100 miles on my new R. I did have a 2014 s1000rr that I traded. I definitely can feel the performance difference in the R but I can also feel the heat. I had a 999s and I remember the heat on that bike but I thought for sure it would not be as bad. The R is super hot compared to the BMW! There is no comparison. The BMW is not hot at all.

My question is once I install the race exhaust will it change at all? Better or worse? Is there anything on the market that you can get to cut down the heat some? I apologize up front if there is another thread on here regarding this issue. Any comments welcome.

Thanks

You have one option.... get used to it.lol

You can ad a wrap or a multitude of different things that are highlighted in one of the many other threads on this site but nothing will make it comfortable, if your in the city and there is traffic or if your going light to light where your temp climbs to the 200 and above level. Ride out in the country and you wont even notice the heat

That is Panigale , HOT everywhere, lol . You should use DEI exhaust wrap. Full exhaust not resolved abount heat on that bike.

You will get use to it I did, it's really not that bad. Also I removed those ugly plastic covers on the left and right side of the engine. I'm down in Florida and it doesn't bother me.

The full exhuast makes it worse.

The newer CF heatshield helps dramatically.

I used the DEI wrap, and the CF heatshield and now it is better then stock.

Traffic is still hot in summer, but it is tollerable now, with full wrapped under seat and heatshilds.

You will find the full system will get rid of some of the heat as your taking away the cat converter and the new heat shield works. But as others have said its a hot bike

I noticed a huge difference between the stock exhaust (first 500 miles) and the full Termi installed without the DB killers.

The "R" feels so much better with the full Termi installed.

I also noticed that once I started sitting all the way back on the seat the heat was reduced by about 50% and the bike runs much cooler. I was apparently blocking the airflow out of the heat extractor vents on both sides with my knees.

I agree with the guys above.

The version 2 full Termignoni exhaust cover, along with the vertical cylinder cover, pretty much solves the heat issue.

Going onto left field, this shield might be the only
thing that will stop me from going to Akrapovic.

Another thing you can do it remove coolant and add engine ice. I rode a 1199 with engine ice next to my bike and at times it was running 15f cooler... huge difference and an easy thing to help with some heat

PS how much work is it to remove those rear Cyl covers ? I want mine off

There is a lot of opinions on the heat subject but this is what I did to mine and it works for me in the hot So Cal weather.

1) Motul MoCool Not Motul Motocool (MoCool by MOTUL is a radiator additive which will reduce cooling system temperature by as much as 15 degrees C (30 degrees F)). Tried Water Wetter, Engine Ice, Motocool but Mocool worked the best.

2) Ceramic coat full Termi (keeps the headers cooler)

3) 2nd Gen heat shield & engine heat covers (helps reflect the heat down but burns your rear hugger)

4) Thermo-Tec adhesive tape underneath my seat (keeps your butt even cooler. best $14 I've spent)

5) Shift-Tech Carbon1199 Subframe Cover Set (keeps your inner thighs from burning) Inner thigh relief at last. Thank you Guido!

Seriously no more heat! My buddies GSXR 750 gets hotter than my Panigale not kidding.

MoCool - Motul

THERMO-TEC Adhesive Backed Heat Barrier: 12x12 inch

ST528 1199 SUBFRAME COVER SET GLOSS FINISH - Shift-Tech Carbon

Thanks for the help. I will be trying it out as soon as I can. I had an 06 Dodge Viper and when I was at the dealership, I got in it, put the seatbelt on and just kept saying something was not right. Then after I got over my initial excitement from the purchase, it hit me, damn not cup holder one in this bitch! For fun pulled the car into service one day for the scheduled service and told my buddy there was a problem. I said no cup holder. He said let me see what I can do. Went back later in the day and on my bill was a $600 charge for a cup holder. I jumped in the car and he had one of those cheap ass things hanging from the door window seal. I said how is this thing $600.00. He said, well I was on the phone with dodge all day, I spoke to their engineers and finally one called back and said, if that is all that he can find wrong with the car get him something quick and charge the hell out of him before he changes his mind about the car. Usually someone who spends this kind of money on a car will not even notice the $600 charge and you have solved his problem long enough to send him home thinking again until we can come up with a solution. It was a joke of course!

I understand with performance you give up some luxury, but sometimes I really think that some of these engineers spend so much time on the major performance mods that they totally forget about the comfort all together. And that is okay, just kinda funny sometimes to think that they miss those things, or they know you are going to spend more on mods so the joke is on consumers.

Anyway, I love the bike and as always there are some things to do to improve it but that is part of the fun as well.

Thanks.

sometimes I think that the heat mapping, or lack thereof, will be more heat related failures for the Pani. If I line the seat with reflective tape, that will put even more heat on the BBS. The coolant additive sounds like a good idea, however but will that cause corrosion problems?.

Not sure about Motul MoCool, but Engine Ice is marketed to have full corrosion protection. In fact, Engine Ice is also antifreeze for those that have to worry about such things.

lamb00J was talking about my bike above. He just picked his 1199 up and we switched off so he could see the difference my mods make. We rode the same 13 mile route on highway and traffic. As we were inching our way through the city traffic part, I kept calling out his temps (OEM coolant) and he would call back mine (Engine Ice). In 96 degree, 90% humidity Central Florida weather, his was consistently 10-18 degrees Fahrenheit hotter than mine. After getting stuck at a particularly long left turn signal (2 cycles before we were able to turn, about 5 minutes), his bike peaked at 234 degrees F and mine never rose above 219, and as soon as the fans come on then, it immediately goes down to 217 and never rises again.

Good (or bad) news the Akra system does not cause any more heat than the full Termi system. Have the Akra system on my bike, and found it to be less heat than a stock 1199S (with upgraded shield) that I test drove last year. About the same heat as the Termi full system. That exhaust valve, below 5k rpm generates so much heat. I hated that thing on the stock system!! I also have a DP race seat, so it may possibly help with distance from the header. Possibly.

I love plain distilled water - even better if you want to add water wetter with it.
