I love plain distilled water - even better if you want to add water wetter with it.

Best choice by far.

Glycols (like Engine Ice, etc.) aren't as efficient at cooling. A lower BTU capacity means you have to increase flow rate/volume to get same energy transfer as water.

A look at the MSDS for McCool reveals Hexanoic Acid and 2-Ethyl as primary components.

Alcohol based. So it's functional property is similar to Water Wetter - not as a cooling fluid but as water treatment reducing surface tension and lowering cavitation tendencies near boiling point. Neither provide any anti-freeze properties.

Add Engine Ice or other anti-freeze fluids to your cooling system if you live where there is possibility of temps occuring below 32f. But no glycol-based treatment is going to be as good as plain distilled water at cooling your engine.

... The coolant additive sounds like a good idea, however but will that cause corrosion problems?.

From their product information page:

"- MoCool does not provide any antifreeze protection...

Engines run cooler by 15°C (30°F):
Improves thermal exchange and engine cooling system efficiency.
Cooling system optimal protection against corrosion.
Recommended for magnesium, aluminium alloys cases, cast iron, copper, brass and bronze systems.
Water pump protection, avoid cavitation
Anti-corrosion properties that remain while high temperature and ageing. Low corrosion inhibitors consumption.
Seals, rubber pipes, and plastics parts friendly"
