...and probably because I'm a total newb to Ducati.

Why is the inside axle diameter larger on the drive side than on the other side? When ordering pins for single sided swing arm (my 1299s) the pins are different sizes. And low and behold... They are! Whoa.

Willing to accept all flaming and proclamations of my ignorance...

On the 1199 Pitbull stand they are the same. Axle inner Dia is the same.

Oh weird. I thought I remember the option of buying the second pin for the 1199 as well, when I was looking for the 1299. This was for the Pitbull stand also.

i installed the rear axle slider a few weeks back on the 1299, they appears to be same diameter, i can double check

I have the pin for the left side (chain side) and it will not go into the right side.

Didn't know this was akin to "break in procedure" or "what oil to use". [emoji23]

oh it is... seems like most ask if one pin will fit both sides, more along those lines... you just worded a bit differently

Make sure the retaining ring for the Axle nut is not protruding all the way through. I have the same pit bull stand that I used on my 1199 for my 1299S

So weird. I'll double check, but I'm sure that retainer is not protruding. It's not even in those holes. Good thing I paid $400 for a first "service"...

Actually, the axle could be the same internal diameter; but the Pit Bull pins are definitely slightly different in diameter. You can sometimes get the larger Pit Bull pin to work both sides; however, if the retaining clip protrudes through the hole in the axle like it is supposed to, then you are screwed. This is a real pain is the ... when you are trying to work with tire warmers because you have to push the retaining clip out in order to get the larger Pit Bull pin into the axle. That is why Pit Bull offers two different size pins, depending on whether you are using the left sided or right sided stand.

I use a left-sided stand and got fed up because I had the larger Pit Bull pin that was meant for the right sided stand. My solution was to take the larger pin and skim 2.5 mm off its diameter using a lathe.

So, you are not crazy. This does illustrate that the folks at Pit Bull know what they are doing when they offer slightly different pins depending on if you have a left or right-sided stand.

You're not dreaming. The internal diameter of the axle is smaller (about 2mm) on the chain side.
Easy for anyone to verify by simply taking a bright light and looking inside the axle.Or simply putting a ruler up to each end and measuring the diameters. Pretty obvious.

Larger on chain side...

And now the real question: "Why?" Very curious.
