Real value of the upgrade options

There's no way you're getting $10,000 more when you go to sell it in 3 years base vs tricolore.

Oh, I don't know... I sold my 1098 Tri for $18,000 at a time when the used base models were bringing $10,000.

Of course, that doesn't mean they'll all hold their value like that but the depreciation does seem to stay relative to the original cost.

Strange:confused:

Just wondered why the base and S are being quoted at the same weight figures?

I don't know the exact weight delta for the wheels, though the S models wheels are .4Kg lighter than the 1198S Marchesinis which where ~2Kg lighter the the standard 1198 wheels. The Standard 1199 wheels are .5 Kg lighter than the 1198, so I calculate that the 1199s wheels are ~2.1Kg lighter, as stated by SteveB.

So by simple reasoning, you have to add weight to account for the DES on the S/Tri models which must add ~ 2.1Kg to the sprung weight. Those opting for ABS can add an additional 2.5Kg on top of that.

Wheel weights were from the EICMA presentation graphics; see http://www.ducpower.de/dp225.html for tons of nice shots.

I'd hold my breath on real weight comparisons until some independent sources "weigh" in, but DRSapp's got it, the S has DES which is going to add some weight, plus remember the RAC50L's on the front of the base are supposedly the lightest USD forks on the market with their 50MM AL lower stanchion tubes. Something like 2lbs less unsprung weight than the std RAC50's (which are already light), if memory serves. So from base to S you drop a bit over 2 kilos with the wheels but add it back with heavier forks and DES gizmos.

The Tricolore is anything but limited. I believe more of those will be sold than Red 1199 S ABS models.

With the Tricolore you get slip ons, which to purchase out right cost 1900 USD. The 1199 S ABS will cost 24995 USD + 1900 for slip ons and your are at 26895, so the Tricolore is only 1100 more for the paint scheme!

Nearly - don't forget the 590 for the DDA.. :)

Or, take the difference and get the full Termi System on the S.

Why do you keep calling it a a limited edition? I think that's just in your head!

Pretty standard logistics. They won't make more of the high end model because more people will buy the low end model. It's not a difference of a few hundred bucks here. We're talking $10,000 difference. There's no way you're getting $10,000 more when you go to sell it in 3 years base vs tricolore.

The 1199R will most likely be out in 2013 if you want to start throwing the word limited edition around.

Maybe you are misunderstanding me. I do think it will be somewhat limited after the 1199 runs its course, but if you read what I wrote I mention that it probably isn't very exclusive and I mention the word limited one time. Please forgive me if I overstated how limited it will be, as that wasn't my intention.
I hope that they only make the Tricolore one year, and keep the other years as solid colors. This is my hope and is based upon the previous generation tricolore.

I stand by by my statement that top end models typically depreciate less, especially if left stock.

Tony,

Is that pricing off by a thousand, or I did I have that wrong. I thought the "S" model was $23K and $24K with ABS.

Here is what I listed in the OP:
"1199S Tricolore is ($5K) more than 1199S and includes ABS ($1K), Termi's ($2K), DDA ($600). Not sure how much a dealer would charge for installation. But this leaves about $1K for the paint job and limited production value?? Not so sure about the value in this one."

But as you know I went for the Tricolore b/c I like the color choice better along with the other items I listed earlier in this thread.

What kind of sales tax are you guys paying? That's also a huge factor for me. In BC, tax is 12%. So to go from the base to the Tricolore is $11,200 more. I can think of a lot of better things to spend an extra $11,200 on, and will have just as much fun with the 1199 base.

Sales tax in USA varies a great deal. Most pay a combination of State and Local sales tax. Average in USA is probably around 6% but can vary quite a bit. I pay 6.5% where I live. Tax due at time of registration for tags. So yes, it is a $30K toy :)

Don't be complaining about Canada's sales tax now....100% import tax in Thailand..... 62k USD toy for 1199Tri and 55k USD for 1199s.

AND all of the 1199 Tri's initial shipment are already accounted for!

Carbon Rear Hugger

Does anyone know if the S and the S Tricolore come with Carbon Rear Hugger as standard ?.
I know the Front Fender is Carbon but I can't make out if the Rear Hugger is.

no carbon rear hugger worse luck, just put it on the list of more stuff i want.
cheers burty.

Sadly the Tricolore is $35,000 OTD in Canada. $29,995 before tax. It's not Thailand, it's freaking next door.
