I am looking for feedback regarding “upgrading” the rear master cylinder and/or caliper, preferably to a 4-piston caliper. For those who have performed the upgrade, is it worth it? I hadn’t seen that particular caliper before and wondered if it was compatible with the V4.

Intermediate, B Group rider. I do use my rear brake, but admittedly part of the reason I’m considering the upgrade is aesthetics.

well for sure those are pretty calipers man!

And there is nothing wrong with using rear brake, dont get me wrong...it def helps settle the bike, if you use it a little bit before slamming the front coming to the end of straights! its also helpful as a very advanced tech of moving the rear end around into a corner..to turn faster and get on gas quicker!

IF i could use my rear, i would prolly practice it more (war injury)..but Ive gotten pretty fast and overcome that limitation.

Good luck, and if you do upgrade, i'm thinking your stopping power and bite back there will increase a lot....so dont go all HAM with that right foot straight outta the gate my man!

Thanks for the advice. I’m trying to work on my late braking and overall braking confidence on track. I know it’s my weakness.

Have you known anybody to upgrade to a 4-piston rear caliber on the Duc superbikes?

Why?

Did mine on one of mine ,just cost a lot of money, as far as looks go ,you can't even see the back brake caliper.leave it a lone, spend the money on track tyres.

I can see it. The minor details matter, as is the case when I mod my car(s). My bike doubles as a street/canyon bike, and I like the aesthetics of certain upgrades. That said, I do seek added performance as well.

You are welcome. Hope you are rich!

You don’t need a more powerful rear brake, rear braking is all about finesse, you never brake hard with the rear brake, you ‘drag’ the rear brake just enough to shift the bike’s weight. You drag it a bit just before you grave the front brake and trail off of it as you tip in while trail braking the front and then I use it again to tighten the radius radius on a corner to help get the bike pointed in the right direction for the drive out of the corner.

Before you spend any money to improve the rear brake, check if your bike is on the recall/update list for the new rear brake line from the ABS to the rear caliper to address how soft the pedal feels.

I have one on the way, so I can better advise in a week. I think the difference in the new line was to address how the rear brake gets softer over time, which was an effect of heat from the exhaust on the line.

But, to the best of my knowledge, all of the brake lines on modern Ducati bikes are steel braided. All rubber lines are more of a thing with cheaper Japanese bikes. Ducati generally does brakes very well.
