On my way to work this morning my rear cowl fell off and bounced down the road..... grrrrrrr
I cant of clicked it into place correctly.

But I was surprised that it wasnt overpriced for a new one.
has this happened to anyone else?

this has happened on at least one other rider. It is tricky to click it into place not nearly as easy as my sf. I was noticing this last nite.

What'd they hit you for on the price for the cowl?

Oh man. This exact thing happened to me. My idiot friend didn't "click" the rear cowl in after looking at my trunk space (or lack there of). And it flew off, and got scratched to hell on the road. I ordered one from Ducati through my dealer, it was about $235 with the 10% parts discount. I'm looking to sell my scratched one to someone looking for spare beater track parts that's just going to paint it or something.

Sorry to hear about that.

They said it was NZ$350 which is about US$270...

Spose that equals one less carbon part! I'm tempted to put a safety cable on the new one.

FYI, when I received my bike and first looked at that, after the dealer had mentioned they have come off if you dont pay attention and click it on securely, I found that there was still masking tape wrapped around the latch pin on the cowl itself.

After removing the masking tape it nows clicks in securely and easily every time. Wish I had a picture but didnt think to take one before I removed it. What caught my eye is that the pin was red like the cowl and not a metallic color since it should be a steel pin.

Mind you it was deceiving since it was painted over and you could barely tell. Dont know if it should have been removed at factory or dealer but of course it was not intended to function correctly in that condition.

See the picture below, if yours doesnt look like this, take a closer look. You can see that the plastic is originally white, and that the pin is masked before painting. In my case the tape was still present when I took delivery making opening and closing the 'trunk' difficult.

Got lucky with mine, it came loose once and was about to go flying but I felt it hitting my arse and grabbed it before it had a chance to fly. I pay close attention to it latching now!

Yeah mine hit my ass as I was going down a steep hill and I thought what the F is that and looked around and it fell off to the side... damm

Exact same happened to me. paid about 225 to get it replaced.
lucky that a buddy was behind me so we were able to retrieve my wallet from the roadside..

I double check it now before riding and only put my reg and paperwork back there...
no room for anything else.

Iphone storage in my case (clipped to the rubber handle, just in case).... I would be careful with the safety cable... don't want that dangling around near the rear tire.....

Just happened to me about an hour a go.........not to badly scratched but still noticable! F*cking annoying.
