Found on YouTube today and found it interesting.Never seen a bike that destroyed before.I don't know how to link it, but the youtube channel is by CJ Media and the title of episode 1 is "Rebuilding a Wrecked 2014 Ducati Panigale 1199!!"

I would have thought that a Panigale in that condition is not worth rebuilding only good for parting out? Anyway I think others will find it interesting as well.

Damn that was painful to watch. The bike was fine but that guys work environment rivaled something in a rural Indian village. His work bench is the floor, his rear stand is a cinder block assisted by a floor jack that would make Harbor Freight proud and he hasn't yet prepared himself for the anal breaching that is about to commence at the Ducati parts dept. Ugly.

you said it! It gets worse with episode 2

He might have bitten off more than he can chew. Hopefully he can rebuild it.

He’s not going to check the motor other than replacing the valve cover gasket nor has he mentioned the fact that the frame is an integral component to maintaining the engines geometry.

I’m guessing that impact has most likely compromised the integrity of the engine. It’ll probably run but it might not run long for long. No perimeter frame, engine case is 2 piece indexed with dowels. These things don’t crash well. I have an 1199 case that was high sided. Motor looked fine. Crankshaft bore gauge said otherwise. The case shifted when the swingarm smacked the track.

cool what the guys doing but man, get a workshop figured out. Doesn’t need to be white epoxy, stainless and SnapOn but this is nonsense for your own sanity

looks like the ideal donor for a stolen 1199... thats a whole lot of junk.. no keys, tacho junked etc etc

Its not just Panigale's that are expensive to rebuild, all superbikes are complex and lots of small expensive breakable parts. That bike is really a donor of the remaining good parts (if any) unless he already had a bin full of Panigale bits and pieces.

His latest episode he didn't know what the spark plug lead was and I just facepalm when he said that.

Good on him for giving it ago but I think his bitten off more than he can chew, Parts are $$$$$$$$$$$.
I don't have a motorcycle/car lift either but have done plenty of work on cars and bikes.

I dont wish him well, I wish him an experienced advisor. Whats an average 1199 worth 10k ish?
2 k down and 8k @ say 5% finance is 400 pa plus principle. Over 3 years lets call it $80 a week with fees insurance etc....

and youre riding, if you look after it since they are at residual value maybe youll recoup 7k on the resell?

Take the wreck- now unless he is connected into the excellent quality Ducati wrecked parts world ( yeah right!) he will be buying a lot of new parts. Without even trying theres 10k in second hand bits, in fact if he went to the dealers there's 40k at least in parts but since nobody does that he will be in aftermarket/second hand world. He might get lucky but or he might be onto the whole youtube beggar schtick and try and fleece the rubes but I cannot see this ending up as runner.

I've been quite blessed to find some insane parts deals online! I'd actually consider my myself quite fortunate with the environment I'm currently in.

that's good to know! I'll have to inspect the frame thoroughly! I was thinking some Matco mats all throughout? Loljk actually right now I'm rocking a boogie board from back when I was a kid. It's not bad at all.

if you know the right people it's actually quite affordable to get a used tacho and reprogram the ignition immobilizer plus new cut keys!

you're right I really don't know my stuff but slowly I'm figuring it out! Considering how the bike isn't that heavy, some minor wood working here and there has given me lots of accessibility!

well Paul only time will tell if I can get this thing running! I appreciate the insight! Say maybe you and I and some Ducati nerds go for a cruise once she's up and running? Lol

Good on him having a crack at it ,
when the bike was delivered i thought No what a mess but to his credit with limited knowledge he is progressing .
Youth and exuberance on the garage floor LOL
my back could not deal with that.
I would like to know the cost of the parts to bring that mess back to life and if it is worth it .
