I just love my V4S (Francesca) she has soul because of all the teething problems. Here is a list of the Bulletins and Recalls that my shop in Raleigh has completed to this point. Sadly we missed the one recall for the exhaust header pipes that same to be prone to cracking. We'll get that done in July. Fingers crossed no more recalls:) after that. Ducati's profit margin must be crap on these bikes.

1. Recall CR-150 ECU Update
2. Recall CR-148 RCL-18-002 Fuel Tank
3. Recall SRV-18-009 Side stand
4. Recall RCL-18-006 Oil cooler
5. Recall RCL-18-009 Clutch hose R/R
6. Recall RCL-18-008 Hyd. Tensioner torque
7. Bulletin SRV-18-008 Clutch and Brake rework
8. Bulletin CR162 Rear wheel speed sensor
9. Bulletin SRV-18-018 Pan rear swingarm hub screw

My V4S is the first Ducati that I've owned and, mamma mia, there are a lot of recalls and bulletins open for this thing. Now that I've addressed all of them, I finally feel like I belong in the community as I can now share my own frustrations [emoji23]

This V4 is my first Duc and the recalls are bloody annoying mostly because of the 2 hour round trip in peak hour traffic to the dealer that this bike was never built to do. It does it fine but isn't my idea of a fun ride.

I have a list of things to go back with now and so what is this about the cracking headers? Is that a recall or service bulletin? Any more info around this and anything's else I should look out for would be appreciated.

I was told the header pipes are a recall.

Yep, definitely a recall. I blew out the rear near the shock and in one lap it did a number on the nearby electronic suspension wiring and any plastic bits. There was an approx. 2in hole. It was loud AF. We're pretty sure it also killed or drastically shortened the life span of the gear position sensor, as it failed almost immediately after the headers we're fixed. Yes, headers plural..

Ducati Austin took care of it straight away and even went the extra mile to pull the front headers just to check them as well (no simple task). No real notable audible cues or externally visible signs before disassembly. However, there ended up being a hole approx. .75in in size already there! This was all before any official recall was issued, mind you. They found there was an updated part number when replacing (heavier wall thickness) and everything was taken care of under warranty.

The bike has had a few growing pains, but man is it ever a badass out on the track.. I just did my 1st road race ever, on the V4, and it is a serious weapon. Took home a 1st and 3 podiums on our initial outing. Hope to clean up @ NOLA in a few weeks for round 2! [emoji16]

Wow great job on the racing. Just curious do you have full system or stock?

I just have the stock system. Eats up anything out on the track under acceleration. I'm sure the Akro race setup would take it a step further, but 6k will go a long ways toward the tire budget.. so.. /shrug

I'm really grateful for this forum and the knowledge sharing. So thanks guys! I was hoping I was just about done with the recalls, TSB, and other issues, but it looks like I'll be taking it in for the headers pretty quickly. Despite the issues and headaches, I cannot stay angry at this machine. The performance of this bike is really special.

I totally agree. I've done 4 track days with my V4S with stock exhaust and the bike is not lacking for any speed. In fact it pulls away from just about everybody. I've always been an "exhaust guy" but the power and acceleration of the stock V4 was already very very impressive to me and I'd rather save the Akro cash for use on tires and track day fees. And if the bike keeps fair reliability, I plan to spend A LOT on track days this year. :D

That's where it's at, man. Honestly, to truly enjoy this machine, you have to take it to the track. It's just so damn much fun. I love blowing by guys on fully decked out R1's or S1000RRs etc. that are built to the 9's and me w/ my stock setup.

I would like to see a decent, relatively inexpensive exhaust option, but I mostly want it to save on weight vs. outright performance. Once there are some respectable tuner options out there I might think about it. Hopefully, with Kyle Wyman running one in MotoAmerica, we might get some trickle down parts eventually.

The headers recall must have been the first batch of V4s, I called in to check if my V4 I bought in june had the header recall and it did not.

Of course you never know if someone has the info wrong but as far as I know, I'm in the clear for that work.

Likely. Mine was one of the first delivered. By the time they pulled them and went to get new ones the part numbers were already superceded with the new headers.

Agreed this bike laughs at my abilities or lack there of, I'm trying. Last year at VIR south I saw an indicated 180MPH before my reference point to brake into turn #1 an off camber right hander that catches many people out. That is the fastest indicated speed I have ever seen!! The brits clocked these things at 191MPH!!
The bike makes me look like I've got skills. On the back side of the course there's a first gear right hander that opens up to high speed chicane section. The control rider behind me said that was I leaving big black marks on the pavement and white smoke was coming off the tire because of the high amount of wheel spin!!! I was at mid lean with the TC set at 2. Under normal circumstances I'd probably get high-sided off the bike, this did not occur.

Ha! That is awesome. Love hearing other's experiences with this amazing machine. I'm ready to go riding again!

Also, just for reference, we've got the brits beat by 7mph. I recorded 198mph on the GPS @ COTA on the long back straight (riding a Speciale). Was kinda bummed we didn't break the 200mph barrier, but that 198 is the highest we've ever seen from anything else at that track during a track day.

I'm sure in full race trim, the V4R would surely surpass that number. All I know is I'm grinning from ear to ear under the helmet every time I toss my leg over the bike. :D

198 mph GPS... OMG!!! That is extremely awesome. I thought the 191 number was incredible already. But I believe it. The bike has ferocious power and cuts through the wind slippery and stable. I see an indicated 180-184 every lap at Fontana Auto Club Speedway, but I'm sure that if I can get a better drive onto the straight, I can blank out the speedo. The only issue is that front wheel is lifted in 3rd gear entering the straight at 130 mph and sometimes I get some head-shake, haha. So, so, so much fun.

I dropped off my Speciale yesterday at my dealer. They are doing the radiator swap and I gave them engine ice to put back in vs. antifreeze. They are also doing the clutch line so I decided since they were going to have to bleed the system I'd have them install CNC clutch slave cylinder at the same time. I also told them to look at the quick shifter because it's messed up a few times while up shifting. Hopefully they find something there also.

There is a service bulletin out for the quick shifter. Sorry I didn't ask for details. They thought my quick shifter was AFU. I don't use the quick shifter on the street so I turned it off. Ask your dealer about that service bulletin.

Sorry flrthedumquestion but what’s the difference between a recall and a service bulletin ?

Somefun what problems have you had with your quick shifter? My speciale is number 455 and when I’m accelerating quite harde around second or 3rd it some times almost cuts the engine and it’s as if I hit a brick wall As if I’ve hit a hard rev limiter which I’ve not as I change we’ll below anywhere near the limiter

Thanks
Nick

Same thing man. In second sometimes trying to shift to third it just won't up shift. You wind up trying to up shift twice to get it there. I thought it was me but I've never had an issue with any of my other girls....

This is my guess. If Ducati is anything like the FAA, a Ducati technical service bulletin is lower priority then a Recall.
Reach out to your dealer and ask for a copy of the service bulletin. I should have asked for a copy of the 15 page document, sorry.
