I haven't changed any settings from stock since I bought the bike.

I think I would like to soften it up a bit for smoother in town riding. I am trying to be kind to my aching neck.

I am ~ 210 +/- 5 lbs with gear.

Any suggestions on some settings to try?

Thanks!

try bar risers... make big difference as you won't have to bend your neck backwards that much ... have a look at your helmet.. can it bend backwards enough.. ?

Try a GoldWing...

How about 6ft, 240lbs? Any setting adjustments recommended from Stock? I have the base 2013 so i will need to dial it all on my own.

Stand with your back against the wall. Extend your neck as high as you possibly can, stretching it like an accordion, then pull your chin in, pressing the back part of your head as hard as you can against the wall. Hold for a few seconds, then release and do it again. This will build up a lot of your core neck muscles that will help stabilize your head.

Only do maybe five reps, see how you feel the next day, then repeat. You don't want to do 100 of them at first!

Exercise (not stretching), will help alleviate most neck / back issues.

Also, find a good trainer (someone with a Physiology degree or a good yoga yoda) and work with them individually on how to strengthen your neck meat.

Thanks all for the info. I am already set to P. I am doing PT which is helping with the issues with the bikes geometry. I added a NEXX carbon helmet which helps. It seems that the bumps are the worst thing now - hence the thought of suspension.

thanks again

Have you taken it to a suspension professional to have it setup properly for your weight?

Also looking for recommendations on what people are using
180 lbs
track & tail of dragon use.
Also possible tire pressure.

Next time at the Gap, go see Ken Wheeler for suspension setup. He won't steer you wrong.;)

It costs 15 minutes of labour time.

Unless you go to the dealer to setup, then it costs you insane labor costs. (or for me they bent me over anyways)

I think you have already touched upon it yourself by suggesting you are getting a different helmet. However rather than the weight of the helmet the aerodynamics make a huge difference. I have a couple of helmets, Bell Star Carbon, an AGV, and an old Arai. Big differences in wind resistance and which neck muscles they affect.

While the Bell might be the lightest(not sure) being Carbon, the design actually creates a lot of drag/resistance above a certain speed. I had to get used to it and build up some neck muscles before comfortable. I tend to wear it now for general riding, or even the track, because high speeds tend to be short duration. However if I know I'm actually going riding with a fast group of guys and the speeds are going to be very high for long periods I'll actually wear the AGV as it has much less drag at high speed and my neck is much more comfortable.

Not saying that that is your issue but it may well be part of it, and the right helmet might make riding significantly more pleasant for you. I understand the Schubert helmets are very good in regard to drag as they have their own wind tunnel, and also the new AGV Pista supposedly reduces drag significantly.

I went to my local suspension expert, I take all my bikes to him. It takes 15 minutes to measure you and make the adjustments.

Before you take any of these arm chair PT's advise; (and there is some good advise here) I'd recommend and MRI and a thorough evaluation by a spinal orthopedic surgeon or a neuro spine surgeon to rule out any degenerative joint disease, compression issues and or other pathology that may be exacerbated by hitting bumps on your bike.

You could be one good bump away from significant peripheral neural deficits.

Thanks - good advice. I have already done all of that:
degenerative disk disease
herniated C5/6
stenosis C6/7
Trying PT for now
thanks again
