For those of you that have changed your oil filter, is there a better way to get the filter cover off other than prying it off with a screw driver? I changed mine and There has to be a better way, I can't imagine Ducati allowing that.

I use rather large jawed channel lock pliers, grip it on the sharp ends near the bolts and pull. I use the same points over again, gets easier each time. my .02

Use two " L " shaped screwdrivers or allen wrenches . Place the " bend " of the tools against the engine. place the " short end " of the tools against the very small lips/pry points on the backside if the cover. Carefully pry ( not pull ) against the backside of the cover on each side , at the same time. It'll pop right out up to the o-ring. Pull out the rest of the way , and wrap in a clean rag. If you let the o-ring get dirty , you'll end up with a leaking cover later. DON'T OVERFILL ! IF YOU DO.........TAKE THE TIME TO REMOVE SOME OIL WITH SOME LARGE STRAWS TAPED TOGETHER , THROUGH THE FILL HOLE ! If you take your time and are careful , you won't have any issues. Note : If you wrap a little electrical tape around the " bend " of your tools , you won't mark up your engine while removing the cover. Also , the cover is not symetrical. The side facing up is thinner than the side facing down. If you can't see what I mean , mark the top side of the cover before you remove it. It'll only fit back in , one way. Don't try to force it the other way , or you're gonna be screwed. Good Luck !

A little tip someone posted a while back and I posted on another thread the other day. If you overfill with oil, you can take spray nozzle (like from windex or such) stick the tube in the oil filler port and squirt the nozzle quick and easy way to get rid of the excess oil

Thanks guys. I used the two screw driver thing the first time, but just seems like there had to be a better way. I will try the channel lock, or allen wrench thing next time. I will have to see if there is enough meat to tap the cover holes, and use two larger bolts as a puller like the old Desmo Quatro used to pull the timimg cover.

Yeah thats an idea I was thinking of too. Also a smear of grease over the o-ring will make it easier to pull out next time.
