Just received my Ride Core system in the mail yesterday. This is their newest updated stuff. I decided to go with this alarm mainly for the GPS tracking feature as well as the text and email messaging if any of the sensors get tripped. Its got a bunch of other features that look cool, but weren't the selling point for me. I didn't get the perimeter alarm or anything like that cuz I don't want to be that bike that chirps or goes off if a leaf falls near it, like one bike I park near is prone to do.
I'm kinda paranoid now after my R1 was stolen from campus earlier in the year and I can't really afford to go replacing my 1199 if it falls victim too. I've got insurance and I know that's my best bet if something happens, but I figure an added layer of security (real or imagined) can't hurt.
Looks like a pretty simple install, GPS plugs into the unit (both are pretty small, smaller than their last line of stuff, which is a good thing since space is at a premium on these bikes) and its a three wire install, positive, negative and a 12V source (they recommend tying into the tail light).
Now I just need to go find a place to put everything....I've added a few photos of the system. Slick packaging, very minimal. I dig it.

Cool man. Never seen that one before. Had had looked into the rLink previously but I just don't let my bike out of my sight now. Keep us posted on how it goes.

Got it all installed. It took about 3 hours to do. Took off the left fairing off to get to the battery and basically the entire tail section (partly due to access and partly due to fixing a mistake from the factory with one of the tail light shroud clips not being in its place...). So here are a few photos I took of the install. The wiring itself was pretty easy, but I did have to lengthen the 12V supply that is tapped into the tail light.
All in all I'm pretty happy, the install is completely invisible, which is nice, BUT the activation code they sent me is invalid so I have to wait til Monday before I can test out how it works and how sensitive it is.
If you guys want a photo of where I routed the wire and/or where the module and GPS are located let me know.

I had the last generation Rlink i-1100 gps alarm on my 1198s and I thought that was great...

I now want to get this one for my 1199S

Lance please post up your findings...

Ok, update today: Activation code is working, so I can log into the system. Downside, there's some issue between my module and the APP so basically it isn't displaying any location information, which kind of defeats the purpose of this device.
BUT, and I will say BUT, the customer support so far has been phenomenal. I called today after class and the guy spent close to 30 minutes with me trying to trouble shoot over the phone. He determined the module is working, but for some reason the signals aren't making their way to where they need to go. He's looking into it further and will be calling me back with a solution.
Since it is a brand new system for Scorpio, I'm expecting some teething issues and am not put off by this. At least not yet anyway. They only started shipping these things a week ago. I'll keep you posted on what they say....

Can I recommend you DO NOT post up pictures of how you installed a security device on your motorcycle. Why publicize this on a forum?? All you are doing is advertising how to counter your device to a potential thief. If you must post pictures would this not be better via PM?

good point. thanks

Lance
did you purchase this alarm directly from RLink
or through a dealer ?

I purchased this directly from RLink/Scorpio or whatever they call themselves now. I'm still trying to get it working properly, I've had good experience with their customer service so far. They want me to check and make sure 12V are actually getting to the module, if it is, they will send me a new GPS antenna. Hopefully this will all get resolved shortly.

I was on the phone with them trying to find out if the newer system is better for the 1199s compared to the last one rLink -1100e( i have that one on my 1198s and it works flawlessly , everything, gps, monitoring great unit..)
unfortunately its to big for the 1199s...

So thats why I want to know how their new product is working out ...

i wont purchase it for my 1199S until they figure out what is wrong with yours...

Great customer service nonetheless..

keep us updated Lance...especially me:eek:

After additional trouble shooting they have determined the GPS antenna is at fault and are sending me a new one. I really hope this takes care of the issues of the location not updating...Hopefully this can be resolved this weekend.

Where are you in New Mexico, Lance? Ready for a ride with the Albuquerque chapter? Three members of this board, me, Zaster, and Mundman, ride fairly often along with a few others who don't post on the forum.

Update as of yesterday/today. The antenna came in on Friday, super fast, and at no cost to me, so thanks Scorpio.
Got the new antenna installed and it was working quite well. The other aspects of the alarm such as tilt, shock and 'geofence' sensors all worked flawlessly for the first time. I'm super glad the alarm portion works, and works well. Within a few seconds, less than 10, I get notified of the sensor being tripped via text, email and through the app itself.
BUT, and there is a but, once I put all the body work back on, so now the GPS antenna is not in a free line of sight to the sky, the location updates don't work as planned. I am going to move the GPS antenna someplace where it is exposed to the air and see if that corrects it. At least I know that this antenna works. I was hoping for a completely invisible install, but I am sure I can find a place for the antenna that is out of the way yet still has a better line of sight. I do find it hard to believe that plastic can interfere with the signal, but that seems to be the case.

Cloner, I'm in ABQ too. Yes, I am ready for a ride with you guys! Making the time is the hard part. I practically live in the library, but such is the life of an engineering student as I've come to accept. I've got fall break in a few weeks, so I should have some time to get out and ride with you guys. Keep me posted or send me a message and I'll give you my number.

High performance active GPS antenna should work even in a vehicle. I think its the uplinking performance that is shoddy in your system as the it has to be cable to report back/ send your location and information. All materials can block signal or detune the antenna system. I'd imaging metallic paint jobs in fairings would do that severely if its metal flake. Good luck finding a better spot for the antenna system. I think Scorpio need to advance their system if this is the case.

My thoughts exactly. So bottom line I found a new place for the antenna and now that it isn't covered by measly plastic, it appears to be working just fine. It's not quite as invisible as I had hoped but it's location is discreet and out of the way so I'm happy. It tracked my test ride through the neighborhood just fine so I'm confident my issues have all be sorted. I'll get a more definitive answer when I head to class tomorrow.

Lance, any way of taking a pic and posting it to show where you placed the antenna?

Thanks:)

How about you request this through a PM rather than online? Sorry but I really don't see the merit in posting installation of security devices or asking for pics of how they are installed where all and sundry can see it. It is up to the OP of course but I think this is best kept behind closed doors as not everyone reading forums online will be using the information with honest intentions.

Wow, you foiled my plot to steal Lance's bike ....:(

I previously had the Ducati Performance alarm on my 1199S Tricolore, I replaced it with the rLink-1100e - with all the accessories, it works great.

The rLink-1000e is compatible with the new RIDE software apps, however, the latest version of the RIDE software *ONLY* works with *ONE* device, so if you have multiple bikes with multiple alarms then you have set up a separate account for each device - a royal pain.
