Wow. No kidding? The failure was attributed to the chemicals or the oven or racing or what? Sounds wild. You have to put these in the oven at least twice with Cerakote. If nothin oily seeps outta em after the first time ur good to spray and bake. If anything does tho ur back to square one. This stuff is light. Can be less than .001” thick. Pretty tough too. Don’t be shy and post a pic when they’re done : )
 
I think the wheel had probably had a hard life, had all the protective paint and chromate stripped off (by God knows what method), didn't have any Non Destructive testing done, as you're meant to do with those old wheels, was exposed to air and possibly water and solvents (none of which are good for magnesium) had no protective coating reapplied and then, unsurprisingly, failed.

Most Cerakoters here in New Zealand aren't too switched on, and many are Gunsmiths, surprise surprise, not painters, so charge through the nose. But Cerakoting is by far my preferred option. Will post those pics when done. Cheers =)

Please don't! Give a Magnesium Wheel specialists a call and see what they say before you paint them. I really don't want to see you and your expensive bike face down the gutter.

Insurance company made me a offer I couldn’t refuse so I had my buddies retrieve it while I was in the hospital : )

That's alright then!
My samples will take a while to arrive, Coming from Florida!
On a Matte black bike you'd go for Satin black rims.
 
Yeah I saw that Paul. That thing looked nice

Love the matte bike kiwi but to be honest my favorite colors on the whole damn thing is the base model forks!

Even looked into getting mine made those colors

Not gonna happen...
