He was one of the good dudes. .. always willing to just ........ around. Talk to anyone.. I've had the pleasure of having him out our private jennings day before.. he was a class act. All the way around. Always smiling. .. He will be missed greatly..
Knee dragging in the sky now.. ride well #00. The Wolverine is always apart of us

race in peace Dane!

i couldn't believe the FB posts this morning...

very sad.

Damn!!

Wonder what the FB posts said. I don't social network so i don't see anything.

This Just In: Dane Westby's long-time friend and former mechanic Dustin Meador visited the crash site and believes that skid marks at the scene indicate that Westby was trying to avoid something in his path. "There's a burger joint across the street there and I think someone was rolling out of there and he was trying to avoid getting hit," said Meador. "He was in the left-hand tire track of the right lane. The skid marks start out going straight and then veer off toward the curb. He was on the brakes. To me it was pretty obvious that he was trying to avoid something."

Omg !

Just logged on to forum while eating lunch and dropped my fork on ground reading this! I am absolutely stunned to hear this news as he and I were just texting each other a few days ago! He just rode his bicycle to COTA, yes bicycle!

Dane was one of the most low key and approachable guys you could ever meet in the AMA paddocks and a rising star to say the least! He was just testing out the new R1 and was telling me how incredible it was, how much he loved it, and looked forward to racing it too. I am speechless amd the world will be a much more lonely place without Dane in it! :(

May God hold you in the palm of his hands my friend. You will be VERY missed!

Here is the article about the bike ride I just spoke about.

Just a tragedy, so sad. He was so much fun to watch when he rode... A hard charger and a demon on the brakes.

Even after riding for 35 years, it still shocks me when one of us dies doing what we love.

I remember shedding uncontrollable tears when "Super Sic" passed and I might shed a few more for "The Wolverine" when I have some quiet moments to myself. I think it's the respect that I have for these men who possess god given natural ability but are still so human. #RIPallwhofall

I'm pissed just thinking about the fact that a car probably pulled out of that burger joint and cut Dane off causing him to crash and kept on driving.

Dane

Since I know exactly where this intersection is from living in Tulsa area, and working right down the street for awhile, I'm trying to pull some olsort contacts at TPD to get me some better details. After a little while the PD report will become FOI (Freedom of Information) material and anyone can go get a copy.

I'm also very interested since he was the best frigging rider you could imagine and a pothole or dead squirrel in the road would never throw his ability off a hair. And for the record he was NOT ever the partying type whatsoever and took even street riding VERY serious! Frigging damn shame and unbelievable loss to this family we call motorcycling and racing. Absolutely GREAT GREAT GUY!

Very sad to hear this. RIP Dane. You will be missed.

Gunny, it'll be interesting to hear exactly what happened with the crash. In any case it's a shame and it won't bring him back but sometimes it helps to know what happened.

Westby Riding Bicycle From Oklahoma To Daytona

actually I was just talking to him about our private day at Jennings again about 2ish weeks back.. he wanted to come but had stuff going on at COTA... we laughed because I said I would rather be at COTA riding.. he laughed because he said sometimes its more fun with the Club guys...
such a great man... its hits me in the feels real bad

What a shame, he was one of the truly fast guys, and was fun to watch. He rode the wheels off whatever he was racing, tremendous skill.

So sad. Never met him but he seemed so down to earth and was so talented. RIP.
