Hi guys,

I am new to the site and Ducati motorcycles, but I've been riding for about 15 years. I found a 1299 that is salvage rebuilt and i have been working with the seller for a week or so now. He seems like a very stand up individual, and I don't think there is anything suspicious about the deal whatsoever. I have asked my close friends, but I am curious as to what current owners would say about the bike and this deal if I could pick it up for considerably less than asking price.

here is the posting: https://dallas.craigslist.org/ndf/mcy/5847952640.html

please let me know your thoughts! I would like to make this guy an offer soon or move on to another deal. thanks in advance!

Salvage title & still wants 21k???? A lot of thins don't seem right in that ad,I wouldn't I'm sure u can find a better deal.

What is a "freak low-side" at a track day? Was he struck by lightning?
I agree with the above, you could do better.

His bike must have been a one off from the factory with OEM Marchesini Mag wheels.

Dude is on some serious crack. If he was smart, he would part it out and get somewhat close to his asking price in total but he doesn't seem to be the brightest color in the box of crayons.

No harsh track time but it was laid down on the track by the first owner and comes with a set of slicks...interesting. It does have a lot of extras but the salvage title and miles do not help it's price and going on 2yrs old. I would continue to shop around and see what other compatibles are out there.

yeah the extras were really the reason i was interested. its set up exactly as I would, but without spending the money on the parts or labor obviously. I checked Texas DMV and the valuation was 13.2k, so i figured it would be worth looking at since he said he had all the paperwork from the dealerships with all the work done including the repairs.

I would check it out and see how others compare in price miles and extras. The only real downside is the salvage title will make resale value even worse down the road so it all depends on if you care about that.

Wait it out man. We're going into winter. Plenty of bikes will come up for sale.

Dude, there is a 2015 1299 base model on ebay for $15k. It has less than 1000 miles on it, never been down and the owner upgraded it to the LED headlight from an S model.

I'd jump all over this if I were in the market...

I sold my 16 1299 base for 15.4k and it had 45 miles on it. Granted I could have waited it out and made more money. I had a 1199 that was a factory buy back and the 1299 was the replacement bike they gave me so I made some money and put it to better use.

Hey i think we spoke! I was the guy on ebay asking if you would tell me how much it sold for. Unfortunately I was too late to jump on that one.

Anybody paying $16,000 for a salvage title motorcycle needs a shot of reality. Maybe $10K. Your "extras" account to .... in resale. You can buy a clean title 1299S for around $16,000 nowadays. I've seen a few of them go for that on eBay in the mid summer.

Lol wait I misread..... This half a ...... is asking $20,000? My oh my these people never stop amazing me.
$22K buys you a used 2015 R. There ya go. That's a real "$40,000" bike.

yah, buy the used R over the salvaged one

there were 2 on ebay a little while ago, not sure if they're still there or not

I'm on the other side of the fence.

1) Resale/value on Panigales are an afterthought. Salvage or clean your going to get hit no matter what the title says. I've seen guys beat the snot out of superbikes with "clean titles" Plus how many guys on here have dumped their bikes and repair them without insurance claims?

2) If the bike has been inspected by two Ducati dealers and everything checks out then you should have nothing to worry about. Take it to a tech of your choice if you want another opinion. This is what I like about this "frame" design, everything is replaceable.

3) You say the bike has been modified to your level of satisfaction. This will save you the headache of sourcing and fitting parts/labor costs. You need to see exactly what is on the bike to get a better idea how much was dumped into it. More importantly you need to see the condition of these parts. If they were bought all new or second hand.

I say if you are comfortable with knowing that you're not going to be selling the bike at a good price but everything checks out, then go for it. Your bartering point will be on the aftermarket parts. Were they new or used. Were they on the bike before the "low-side" or did they replace the damaged parts.

I stiff baffles me how people brush these bikes based on title. Even after we all know that these bikes get salvaged for the simple fact that parts costs are insane!
