Great to see Chaz Davies moving up the field with a 4th position finish at Sepang On the SBK web Chaz states there biggest issue is lack of grip on the edge of the tire which limiting drive out of the corners, I hope they resolve this problem soon.
I cannot believe all the bad mouthing of the Panigale on this & others forums, after Ducati's domination of series 888 - 999 bikes SBK has mandated they run inlet restrictor's while the 1000 4's all free, maybe the playing field will be level some what with the new 2015 rules come into effect.

I actually think the Panigales are doing well, (much more competitive than '13). Chaz is a calculating rider, which won't make him initially fast, but comes alive after crunching the data in his head. Davide is fast and strong, but hasn't been consistent. I attribute his crashes to him as much the bike. He still rode strong in the heat, humidity, and having the flu so I think th Pani still has a good chance at making the top of the rostrum this year.

The kawaskis and aprilias are just rockets. Having said that I would love to know their teams engine's strategies. I would bet they are round robin all their engines leaving nothing for the end of the season.

The evo class maybe the most telling as canepa's bike couldn't compete in the heat of sepang. He has yet to be a force in the evo class, (IMHO).

Dont know much about the restrictions or not but the Panigale hasnt won a single race in the WSBK circuit in two years. Even with Checa. Not looking good for Ducati who tends to charge a lot more for their bikes than Kawasaki and Aprilia. I still love my Pani S over any other but Ducati is getting their ass kicked.

Back in '07 when I still had my yellow plates-check out Celtic Racing R6 behind me with Chaz Davies aboard...I always tell people I just passed him....

We have good corner speed, but i think at sepamg we were 8kmh down on the straight compared to the 4's. Over 16 laps makes a difference

They actually show the current engines used before the races. Aprilia and Kawi would actually end up with unused engines at their current rates.

Re I4 Engines, new Evo rules will become the standard in WSBK 15 think limit is 8, currently Aprilia use up to 24 engines / yr, the Japs are air freighting the engines back to the factory after every race, in 15 that will all end, take those dam 50mm restrictors off the Ducati & let it run

The fact that Chaz could still finish 4th with the 4s having 8Km extra speed speaks volumes about the Panigale & Chaz

This was last year. This year WSBK teams are allowed 8 engines, Evo class are allowed 6. As I said in my previous post, at their current rate of usage, Aprilia and Kawi would have engines left over. Obviously they will start burning through them faster for the last few rounds I would imagine.

Aprilia stated that in the process of making them more reliable, they actually may have found a few horsepower. It's also likely that Aprilia and Kawi were simply tearing down every engine last year constantly simply because they could. Also, Ducati has not had any restrictors on their motors since mid 2013.

Interesting article regarding 1199 restrictions. I know the weight and air restrictors have been removed but it seems they are still restricted by the pistons. Could this be the reason why Ducati came out with the SL???

Its seems the RS is restricted to stock pistons. The 1199 RS is only allowed to make compression increases by machining the cylinder head surface.

Restricted to Death ? The future of Ducati?s 1199 Panigale in SBK World Superbike | 1199s

The SL pistons wouldn't work in that scenario unless they become the stock pistons in the 2015 version of the R which is the homologated model. Kope seems to have hinted that such details are likley to happen for the 2015 model for homologation purposes. However, it seems like it's just some rumblings on the site. Though TJ99 (I think?) probably knows all, but I doubt he's allowed to tell us.

I stand corrected I must have read some incorrect or may be out dated info regards Restrictors.

Going with an almost frameless bike is going to put so much emphasis on suspension, F1 & Sports Cars went through the same thing any chassis flex is a band aide / hindrance of suspension & tire contact patch control. In MX the said the same when the first CR250 came out, now years later with all the development it's now the norm.

Looking at I4 @ 14k rpm v V2 @ 12k arbitrary @ 100% volumetric efficiency as a talking point the V2 would have slight advantage however combustion eff' becomes critical goal above 10k, greater challenger to burn all the charge with 2 big bore cylinders.

I hope Ducati can get on the podium soon & any rule changes make a level playing field for everyone

They are pretty competitive in Evo when Canepa isn't running off the track. As it stands anyhow. I have a feeling that the other manufactures are going to start offering some crazy models in the next few years. The Panigale was the first new design really since the Zx-10r and S1000rr. Honda, Suzuki and Yamaha are due to move the goalposts here soon. At least if you believe the rumors leaking out about Yamaha's next R1 and Honda's V4 superbike that's been due for damn near a decade now.

Good finish result for Portimao WSBK on 2nd race 2-3 finish for Davide & Chaz, shame about race 1

I know the podium finish is not an easy feat and I am very happy with it. I just hope that they will have a race win.

I used to love motogp . but when casey stoner retired and the placings are bad, I told my friends, who needs motogp you can not buy those bikes anyway . WSBK is the real race that counts.

Now that Ducati is not doing well in wsbk, I told my friends "you guys should watch the superstock, those are the bikes that we can actualy buy" but alas , we lost the lead in wsbk =(

I hope this is a temporary thing for Ducati. gone where the days where in the podium is filled with Ducati riders

Yes I sure the Kawasaki Aprilia BMW et al all look just as "Stock" as this Ducati
