Sykes hammers out a 1:21.8 to get on pole... he has that Ninja dialed in and is riding very well.

Sykes just qualified faster on a superbike than both MotoGP Ducs last year.

What disappointment for Ducati, R1 Davies crashes lap 4 and out of the race. R2 2 red flags, on the 2nd restart Davide was on fire coming from 6th to 3rd, then he over cooks on the corkscrew and looses the front, could have held 3rd maybe even finished 2nd ?
Nothing wrong with Ducati except there poor race starts. Hope they can improve after the summer break.

Dont really like the fact that Ducati has not won with the Panigale or on the GP circuit. But who cares? You would still buy the Panigale over the Ninja if money wasn't a issue. Thats all Ducati should care about. RSV4 is the only other sport bike i would consider.

The biggest difference between the 1199 vs the ZX10 and Aprilia are the years they've had to delevlop the platform. The bike has only been out two years and I think the electronics are the thing they need to work on. Sykes is running MotoGP electronics on his bikes. And I agree, Ducatos starts suck. Start 3/4 on the grid, and end up in. 8th after the first corner? They need done work

Development is key, of course 15 will be a shake the rules again. I hope if helps Ducati. Winning a race shouldn't be far away ( I hope)

Just can't believe all the negativity surrounding the Panigale, particularly on this forum. I no racer, but have raced in the past I know from what I've ridden in the past I would be the most competitive on the Panigale

Really like the factory tank fairing set up
Photos care of Chaz FB

Poor starts and the Ducs struggle to maintain the pace for full race distance.

The Ducati has the same problem they did in year one. It eats tire too fast and then they fade:mad:

They put Moto GP Electronics on the bike to help solve the problem but it doesn't seem to help. Canepa is upset because they haven't even made a single change to his EVO bike in terms of development and all the other EVO bike are different each race. Whats up with that Ducati? The EVO Class is going to be the premiere class real soon and unless you have a totally different bike in development you better pay attention to the EVO Bikes!

The Panigale is no doubt a great bike, look at their qualifying times but in terms of a WSBK bike I don't think Ducati did there homework. It seems to me when they developed this bike for WBSK they did a few laps and said this is the greatest handling and fastest WSBK bike Ducati has ever made. Of course they forgot to do 25 laps with the same tires to simulate a real race.

I think the shift in weight for better handling, having 1198CC L twins is killing them. Sure the restrictors are off but there is still restrictions on there pistons and other stuff unlike the 4's. Everytime Ducati makes one step forward the inline 4's are taking two steps forward. Its time to can the L-twin for WSBK and make a 1000CC L4. Aprillia is a good example they abandon the V twin and went with the V4 that is a rocket ship with good handling.

But for a street/track bike for us mere mortals Ill take the 1199 any day over any other bike that is currently out there:D

Do you think if Ducati abandoned the L-twin for racing the change would hurt sales of their L-twin street bikes? A lot of people want to buy what they see being raced.

I think it would help sales because you are absolutely correct a lot of people watch WSBK and want to buy what they see what the Pro's are racing and if they are winning with 4 cylinders it would be that much better for sales. I don't think people would be upset if Ducati switched to a four cylinder (maybe the die hard Ducatist) but it will bring more people besides the die hard, look at the Desmo how many people want that bike? Ducati Fans were pissed when they announced the 1199 had a wet clutch but sales are record breaking for Ducati.
I think Ducati's flagship Superbike Bike should be L4 like their Moto GP Bike to be on a level playing ground. The 4's in WSBK are really close to their Moto GP bikes in terms of power. Its just less difficult to tweak the 4's to get more power. If they reduce the number of engines you could have in a season you will see the Panigales on top.

They already reduced the motors per season to 8 for a WSBK, and 6 for Evo. I Haven't watched this round yet, but some of the feeds usually show how many motors each team has used, and the 4's aren't using many last I saw.

Yeah I know but there was an official request already to increase the number of engines but I guess it was denied. The high Power Kawi and Aprillia are going through engines.

What is sad though I just read for the 2015 EVO class the Twins (Ducati and EBR) will have intake restrictors again.

Where did you see that? That doesn't make sense with any of their performance indexing measures they have in place. The rules package states that intake restrictors will be used to balance performance instead of weight going forward, it makes no mention of restricting Ducati and Buell. They wouldn't fall under this anyway due to their finishes and the performance index model they use.

Also, there was only one team that requested more engines next year, none of the others did.

2015 WSBK Regulations Refined - Limited Engine Tuning Allowed » Motorcycle.com News

The author interpreted the rules a little incorrectly. How the rule are actually written are that weight penalties will no longer be applied to twins, just intake restrictions, if they are indeed required based on performance indexing. Under the previous rules a combination of both was used. Until Ducati starts dominating, there is nothing to fear from an engine standpoint.

Buell, on the other hand, have already burned through their allotment of engines for the year.
