So I was less than impressed with the sound quality of the speakers that come with the SMH10r so I decided to try a little mod. I had a nice pair of Denon headphones that I sat on and broke. So I figured they would be perfect for this. I took them apart and instantly I was able to see the difference in speaker quality. I tried testing the sound of the Denon and the Sena back to back but the Sena what much much louder. My guess was there is a build in amp in the Sena system. So I went ahead and cut the wires to both the speakers (committed now) and wired up the Denon speaker to the Sena system. Bingo! Huge improvement is sound quality and was even louder then the Sena system was. The little speaker was blasting and you could even pick up a bit more bass when I put the helmet on. To my surprise, the Sena wires are a lot better than the ones from the Denon headphones so I plan to go get a soldering iron and connect the sena wires directly, this will also ensure better fit and finish. Overall I must say I am very pleased with the way the project is coming along. I will post more when finished .

I have a pair of collapsable Sennheisers I would sacrafice, post pics, and let us know how the fit in the helmet is, the Senas are awfully slim.

Very good info as I also couldn't hear .... w them. Took em out and used the earbud adapter instead.

I'll get some pictures up soon. The Denon speaker is the same size in circumference but is a little thinker, due to the bigger magnet. I think this also helps because it brings the speaker closer to your ear.

BTY I PM'ed you about the mirrors :D

I did the same with some old headphones to put inside normal earmuffs and use while on the ride on mower.

If you do not mind, which model Denon headphone did you use ?

good work and thanks for the tip

maybe you guys should of went to scala rider, mine g9 automatically increases sound as i go faster, i notice that i'm turning down the volume rather than turning up. ehh to each his own

Sry been a crazy week. I plan to have it completed tomorrow but bike is in the shop. I have the left side done. I am not as sure of the increase in volume as I am the quality. After a hour ride it was almost painful in my right ear with the sena speaker. Where as the denon on my left sounded loud but more natural. Also the denon is thicker so it is closer to your ear.
