i was thinking that since we are all starting to get our bikes now, it would be a good topic to start talking set up setting. ride height? static sag? setting on both front and rear forks and shocks? i understand that everyone is different but with this large of group of people we should be able to come up with some good baseline settings to get the most out of our new toys! i am picking mine up in two weeks and will be trying to set it up as soon as i get it!;) anybody else play with theirs yet?

Do yourselves a favor and buy the 2 DVDs called "An Introduction to Sportbike Suspension and "Twiddling Knobs" by Dave Moss.

Other people's base settings are not going work for you unless you weigh the same and intend to ride the same (tracks days...road only etc).

Base model, rear set to P, just increased the rear rebound two clicks, has stopped it kicking me up the arse quite so much when I hit a bump.

I see your point on rider weight (especially as related to sag), but in the last twenty years or so I've found that baseline setups from a reputable rider or magazine work better than stock and are a better starting point than stock.

Ideally, I'll get to a trackday relatively soon after picking up my 1199 and get a suspension guru to help me with set-up.

I've got track day a week Saturday with Track Tactics. Dave Moss will be there and for $40 he'll set you up - sag, etc and then after every session you come in and see him tell him how it feels, he adjusts bike and tells you what to look for / feel next session. I've also got my new Pitbull rear stand and tank slapper 3M kit but no bloody bike!!!!!
BTW got my gixxer 750 set up with him on previous track day and best $40 you'll spend on a bike.

Gulf, that's awesome. I bet you're one of the few that will have the suspension set up properly. You'll be able to fully appreciate that 1199.
