Anyone try the new shell nitro plus UNLEADED? reported to be 99 octane and have add friction reducers. The word is that it is supposed to reduce frictional, clean and increase performance. I'm in CA and wanted to know which station would have it in the Orange County area.

I filled up my tank at Chuckwalla Raceway with 101 Octane and did NOT notice a difference in hp or torque or top end speed?

Pretty sure your bike will perform identically. The ECU is going to pretend like it is 91 or 93 anyway.

It has been proven time and time and time again, anything over 93 in these bikes on factory tune/ecu is just a 100% waste. Does zero for your bike. Now, if you have a tune for such an octane that high you will absolutely notice a difference. Stock tune you're just throwing more money out the door.

I was just wondering if anyone has tried it in California. I'm more interested in the price and friction reducer claims. I already knew our bikes would need more mods then stock to see any benefits in performance. When I originally mentioned performance increase it would be due to less friction.

I have an open exhaust (by Phil) and the full Akra TuneBoy tune and still did NOT notice a change unfortunately.

Ive been told you need balls to the wall work to notice any difference. Crasking the motor open, pistons/rings, rods etc.

I'm not sure how much this Shell fuel is per gallon, but if its anywhere near the $9.50 a gallon my local Sunoco get for their 99 or 100 (i think) octane gas thats insane anyone would even waste a few gallons of it.

Now, if you can get non-ethanol octane gasoling there ya go. Save your motor! Sadly its impossible to find it in NJ.

Amen to the ethanol! In Cali we have up to a 10% ethanol mix. I run a 50/50 mix of pump and U4.4 not because the engine needs octane, but to get rid of the ethanol induced fueling issues. The metal drums come in handy when going to the track too...

Ethanol gas doesn't damage your motor - it absorbs water it you store it a long time

Gas is 10% ethanol just about everywhere now, not just CA - you can find non ethanol gas if you look for it, but it's usually lower octane

I've run 10% ethanol gas in my turbo cars for years with zero issues

And you won't, nor will anyone else.

Octane simply defines resistance to combustion (detonation). Running a higher Octane than what your owners manual or engine builder/tuner specifies will not yield more power. You will only be faster due to your wallet being lighter.

One of the biggest marketing schemes ever was when they labeled 93 Octane "Premium". It leads to many people thinking "only the best for my ......." and running a higher Octane than what is necessary. Higher Octane/Premium gas isn't better, it is just different.

Run the lowest Octane you can run without causing early detonation (knocking/pinging).

In and of itself, Octane doesn't generate power. Like I said, it simply defines resistance to combustion. When I ride a stock (motor) bike on the track, I run 93 Octane pump gas. The exception is when I have a custom map built for race fuel (which changes the A/F ratio, ignition timing, etc). The race fuel is a different Octane, but the bike is tuned for it. On the R6 Superbike, I run U4.4 for practices and Solo races, and MR12 for Sprints (map switch with different maps). On the RSV4 (stock motor) I run pump gas for track days/coaching and practices, and U4.4 for races.

If somebody has a built motor or a tune for race fuel via different ignition timing, etc...then a different Octane fuel will yield more power. Running higher Octane in a stock motor, with stock compression and timing, does nothing.

Yep.

10% Ethanol is the norm all over the US. Luckily I have a station about 1/8mi from my house that sells Ethanol-free fuel.

But when used, Ethanol is fine. It doesn't hurt anything. The problem comes when it is allowed to sit in the gas tank/fuel system for a long period of time. It has ruining many RSV4 gas tanks; but that happens when the bike sits with the Ethanol fuel in it. As long as somebody constantly rides and is steadily burning through gas, it doesn't hurt anything.

No Difference At All- Seriously?

Was just given the site to find ethanol free gas by a kind member here......

Ethanol-free gas stations in the U.S. and Canada

Find ethanol-free E0 gas stations

.........And was wondering if ANYONE found any improvement to the way their bike ran / drove when using a full tank of this? One said the ECU will not even see it as being any different than gas WITH ethanol - is this correct? I read thru this thread and found that no one really noticed any difference at all, but what if (Diverting for a second) you ran it in your car or truck? Anything then? (Yeah yeah i know, post this on a 4 wheel vehicle forum :) ) LOL :D

I never had the need to look for ethanol free gas since my Dodge is a Diesel yet wifes car is regular gasser. Still nothing seen in cage cars?

And when it comes to your bike - is everyone just using this fuel for long term storage matters (with some fuel stabilizer of course) I thought this crap did horrible things to our fuel lines, injectors, etc and using ethanol free fuel is much better for the bike in the log run overall. No?

i put ethanol-free gas in the race SV and all my yard engines.

they're all front runners :D

You would need to be able to adjust your timing if you want to utilize higher octanes. By just tuning the air fuel ratios you would not get an increase in power with a higher octane.

if you use stabil or something like that you will be fine with the ethonol. techron is awesome to use once a year.

i use stabil or k100 maintenance after every fill up.
