Hi all,

I am just curious as to whether the shift light will come out earlier like 7000rpm when i am running/breaking in my bike? or will it only come out when im hitting about 10000rpm?

Sorry for this stupid question.

Thanks alot!

The graph on the tach was red above 7000, then when you hit around 600 miles the colour changes, and your servive oil light turns on. Most of my break in was in the red, without kicking on the shift lights. Once I changed the oil I made it a point to turn the shift lights on as often as possible. My bike runs like a top and does not use oil.

It might not be a popular decision but I was gentle for like 300 miles, then hammered on the ............. Track day at 500 miles. Runs like a champ.

Thanks for all the replies!

The reason i ask about the shift lights is because i recall seeing the shift lights being activated when i am still running/breaking in my bike. As now i am already after the first service/oil change and my rev limiter is not at 7000rpm anymore.

The thing i am worried about is, did i over rev the engine while running/breaking in and will there be any negative effect to my engine.

Hence, i just want to clarify whether the shift lights gets activated earlier during running/breaking in.

Thanks Brothers and Sisters!

The shift light isn't adjustable, from what I have seen. It should be in the red near redline.

Its not so much a shift light as it is a shift proximity warning... I guess

Thanks for the info Bro. Anyway do you think will the engine be affected when i ran it to red line during running in? As it has been bugging me for a few days, i keep imagining that my bike's engine gonna be damaged.......

Sorry for this silly question..

I don't know you or how you ride, but these bikes are pretty strong...you can't hurt it.

Twist it till you yank your arms outta the sockets...

You're fine. We all did it, whether we admit it or not. :)

nice and easy normal first 100 miles for me.. then control rode a track day on my 1199 at 100 miles for 1 day.. barely hitting the redline but 1-2 times.. then 200-600 light to fairly aggressive riding 600 on.. she loves the high end
