Should Rossi retire now...

Let’s be honest, how many of us watch MotoGP just to see him? I don’t. He was very arrogant when he was younger, he’d ride side saddle across the finish line and mug for the camera. So to see him finish last or next to last, he had it coming.

It doesn't matter if we watch MotoGP to see Rossi, I for one do not.
What matters, when speaking of Rossi's retirement, is the throngs of Yellow fans in the stands and buying merch. They only come to see Rossi.
Will MotoGP survive without him, of course. Will it take a financial hit when the yellow fans disappear, absolutely. Even Rossi's own VR46 guys do not have people in the stands with flags, banners, wigs and smoke bombs.

I kind of enjoyed the last race. Quartararo and Zarco rode the wheels off their bikes... as did Martin. Feels like there is new blood coming up... hard to know if Marquez will be back to 100%

I'm not a fan FQ20, he is too young and emotionally immature. Maybe that is just me being an old fuddy duddy. Until he gets the reins on that, he will continue to be inconsistent. He did run a good race this past weekend.

@WyldCFH Totally agree, Rossi has a value to Dorna and MotoGP fans, he has achieved so much and I have never been a fan boi (too late into watching MotoGP, curse the years wasted watching F1) but going to a race and seeing the tifosi go nuts bought a smile to my face. A few years too many in a factory seat but glad to see someone his age mixing it up at that level of competition.

if he is having fun, why?
for a team sponsor there is nobody that brings more money than Rossi.

What really doesn’t matter is the options of a bunch of grown men engaged in silly banter about a subject they are not remotely associated with or have no bearing on. “GET BACK TO WORK” or in Dons case, go out and find some work.

how long have people been asking this question?
....... 2 races in, Morbidelli didn't do .... either and he is title contender if not a FAVORITE
[/QUOTE]
The stupidest sound that comes out of the Dorna squakbox is, "Valentino Rossi, look at him go at age..." It's not relevant.
Troy Bayless, at 50, was lapping in practice a couple years ago in the would be #2 spot in WSBK times at the same tracks.
Rossi scored 4 points in the first race after getting punted by Binder, fought back up 6 spots was it (?) and Morbidelli 0 points. Petronas has got issues in Losail obviously as the other factory Yams owned the tracked with the Ducs.

Let him ride it out. 2020 and now 2021 is some of the best racing I've seen ever. I want more of that.

Is the argument, "he should go out on top because, glory." Ok I can get that. But then it's up to him.
I think Dorna turned on the media hype machine trying to axe him for years and stick a Spaniard down our face because, A, Rossi is crazy expensive, and B, por la gloria de españa! Then we got 93 and long parades and I stopped watching. omfg it was so boring.
No more of that PLEASE.
Can 93 retire instead and along with him all the BS boardroom racing that is the Honda/Dorna marriage?

[threadjack] Wait can I just revisit 2021 #QatarGP for a sec,
Oh no it's Mir!

Ha, I’m in the same situation and agree 100%

It’s notable to me that the only people to actually challenge Marquez for a title since he has utterly dominated the field, are Lorenzo and Rossi in 2015. Everyone has been fighting for second place for 7 years, and Rossi is one of only two riders to mount an actual charge against the dominant rider of the era. And had he not made the colossally foolish mistake causing incident with Marquez resulting in the penalty at the season finale, he likely would have won the championship in 2015.

Ya that was the death of that season, trusting the two Spaniards were not in cahoots as is totally normal, they all do it. That said, for years 93 got away with pretty much any .......atto he came up with. When anyone else showed a hint of the same thing, they got penalties. That was beyond lame. 93 slamming into everyone's bodies, putting tire tracks up Rossi's back, and Rossi turned around to show it ON THE PODIUM. 93 should have been thrown out of the sport if he wasn't Dorna's little .......
