Has anyone tried the new Sidi Mag 1 boots ? If so any feedback. I have the Vortice at the moment which is a bit of a pain in the ... to put on.

Cheers

You should look at the forma ice. Cheaper in price but not in quality. Fitment is comfortable and fairly easy to slip on and off with tons of support and protection. I have the karel abraham version n I love it. $270 shipped!

I bought them a few months back. I must say they are great. Lower profile design and light. I would highly recommend these boots.

I like the Forma Ice Flow Pro. Do you know how wide they run compared to Dainese and A*? Also, where are they available for $270 shipped?

Jason, glad you like them. Brian and I were at AIMExpo last week and I was enlightened Bout them. I thought the Mag-1 was the replacement for the Vortice, but that is not the case. The Motonation (US distributor) rep showed how the Mag-1 will fold right over on the ankle, not having nearly the ankle support and protection of the Vortice. Brian saw that and just put his boots up for sale on the S1000RR forum, lol. That and they don't have the replaceable soles (and other parts) of the Vortice, but are the same money. I don't get the Mag-1. Less protection/features and fractionally easier to get into than the Vortice but the same money?

Too bad my foot is too wide, I sold my Vortice boots a couple of years ago because they were too tight in the forefoot.

Best Boot Ive warned to date: Comfortable like a slipper, no sidi squeek, great peg feeling, low profile and the adjustability is great. I can keep them on for about 8 hours before my feet need to breath. Hope this helps. I say pull the trigger wont be dissapointed.

hi guys. the ice flow pro and ice pro are the new forma boots. the ice flow and ice were discontinued the 270 price is not available. i can find out if there are any ice and ice flow still around but i need your size and color choice. if you want the newer ones send me a private message and i will give you a price. retail is 399.

Jeff, I knew that when I did some homework on the boots after purchasing (cause I had seconds to buy or not). I find these to be a great option for street / everyday riding. I am not replacing my track boots with these by any means. But they are a great comfortable street boot in my option.

Thank you to everyone that replied with an opinion. sounds like not nearly the protection of the Vortice.

I have found the Vortice keeps getting stuck on the peg on left side when I go to put the side stand down. PITA.

May have to keep looking

I think that is mistaken, Sidi views the Mag 1 to be a top-protection race boot. Visibly it may not look like it due to the lack of external "armor" like the Vortice had, but there is an internal carbon fiber support structure instead which provides the lateral protection. The sole is firmer, and not as susceptible to getting holes worn in it from the foot peg as the older boot, and there is nothing to get stuck on the heel guards now (yea!). They're also 4 1/2 lbs. lighter than the Vortice, and much easier to put on. I have been using them all year, after 2 pairs of Vortices the last 4 years, and these are better in every aspect.

Jarel, I appreciate the feedback from an actual user of the Mag-1. However, having owned a pair of Vortice boots and examining both up-close, there is no way I can see the Mag-1 having nearly the same ankle hyper-extension/flexion protection as the Vortice. The internal carbon structure tucked away inside the boot doesn't have the mechanical "stops" to limit extreme ankle movement. Plus, one crash in the Mag-1 would have them all rashed to hell. The Vortice is designed with all the replaceable external parts, and I can't see how not including a replaceable sole is a positive in the Mag-1.

I think that Sidi did too good a job on the Vortice and and they came out with Mag-1 so that when riders wear out the sole or God-forbid have an off, they sell more boots rather than cheap parts to repair the damage!

I'm not going back, too many near-disasters with the external armor on the Vortice getting caught on my heel guards on various bikes! I feel secure in them, they're more comfortable and a heck of a lot more convenient.

That is odd, Jarel. I have been riding with vortice for 5 years on two ducatis (848,1199s) and five different rearsets (including the OEM sets) and never once had that issue of vortice catching on anything.

But yes, I must say putting vortice on is a huge pain in de bud.
The only reason I am staying with it is to prevent huge pain in de feet. Having crashed once in it (and broke my hip) and having such hard impact on my left foot (bruised really badly) but no broken bones or scratches on both feet had me convinced these are the boots for me.

Brad- you're not the only one who the Vortice get stuck on your pegs. I constantly get caught in the pegs/heel guards on the street and the track. Clearly sidi needs to rethink their design in that area of the boot.

still my favorite boot though.

They did rethink it, it's called the Mag-1, the new boot design! ;)

Thanks for the feedback Jarel. If you think they protect almost as well as the Vortice then I may go for them. I was just a little concerned about the post which said they bend over easy. I suppose I will have to see some first hand and have a look.

If I crash in them and they get wrecked in the crash then the boots will be the last thing I worry about. If the boot is f##ked then I am probably hurt too. Replacing stuff is not a concern for me as I am only a recreational rider and do not race or commute everyday. Again thank you to all for feedback.
