A 2013 1199 to be precise. 1320 miles on the clock. Full Termi system. Ohlins TTX. Sprung for close to my weight (ok I'm being a bit generous). Woodcraft rear sets. Rattle can race bodywork (gotta work on this aspect) Set up for race mode and the like.

I have ridden/raced Ducati's for 20 years. This new beast is something different for me (current track weapon is a 2007 1098)

I've started the basic inspection process. Found some loose items in the shifter linkage and have addressed it (add loctite and tighten to spec). Not done with this part yet.

Debut to occur at a local track, Nelson Ledges in Ohio ... repaved a few years ago and a fast track.

So, need to set sag and check that things are indeed set for me.

This thing is wicked, compared to the 1098. Gonna be fun!

It’s nice when you can find one with a good exhaust already installed. Hope you get it Dyno tuned or flashed.
Do you have quickshift up and down on this bike?

I have to admit to not knowing at this point. It has the load cell on the shifter rod. ... The deal surfaced at a recent track day at Mid Ohio. Could not pass it up. I'm still sorting out what I got (dumb as that sounds).

Unfortunately, we dont have a local dealer anymore, so any specialized work will require a road trip. I'm pretty handy mechanically, but dont have any of the diagnostic equipment available.

congrats

Congrats!

my ex-race-1199 lives near Cincinnati now and is still being raced in WERA.

loose bolts are notorious on them, safety wire and loctite are your friends. I had a valve cover seal go at RRR and got oil on the rear tire.

upshifts are clutchless, unless you have a blipper box added, for downshifts too

1320 miles are nothing!!!

Since you have the full termignoni system on it, you can be fairly certain that the up-map,the Single came with it to load the map.

Good luck!

you have QS up

Pretty much the same as me , I just jumped on a 1199r after owning 1098s track bike which I put 6000 track Ks on
1199 holds its line through corners without as much physical input front doesn't want to push as much , gobs of power up high
opp of the 1098 where the ponies live down low, 1098 runs out of berries way before rev limit 1199 just keeps pulling all the way to red line.
1199 cockpit I am still getting used to its tiny compared to the 1098 .
Enjoy ! looking forward to your post ride report

so after spending a bit more time with the bike, I noticed that the Marzocchi forks have the Ohlins 30 mm cartridge kits installed ... yay!

The body work is all Armour Bodies from Woodcraft, so ordered the belly pan from then, and have a the blank off connectors coming from Ducati Omaha.

For some odd reason I have two upmaps in boxes.

A previous owner installed an AFAM 520 kit, 15/41, he stated that gearing worked well for Mid Ohio, will see if Nelson Ledges is good too. Have a 39 and 40 520 rear sprocket if needed.

The full termi system is missing one of the aluminum heat shields ... found some CF bits that will hopefully fit.

The bike is shod with a near new set of Pirelli slicks ... good way to start. My 1098 takes a 180 rear so the couple I have wont work on the Panigale.

The oil level is high ... may just do an oil change ... Ben Fox has me using Motul 300V, swears it's far better than Mobil 1 which was my previous go to.

Shell Advance full synth 4T 15W 50 is what I have been told to put in my Pani buy the race team that built it .But oils are oils everyone seems to have their special fav .

Welcome to the club and you must be local to me, been to Nelson's several times (with cars) a friend used to race the 24 hrs in GTU class there back in the day. Saw Steve Miller, Van Morrison and Heart there back in the 70's. I don't have the balls or skills (in my 60s) to push an 1199. Just an FYI if you don't already know, with the full Termi upmap loaded you should get a "Racing Evo" across the dash when you turn the key on. Yes it sucks that there are no more Ducati dealers around: Cleveland-Akron Honda Ducati Triumph etc was just under 10 min from my house they closed some time ago. Bought the only new bike I ever had from them, a 2008 1098. After they closed the nearest then became Crooked River (bought out by Northern Ohio Ducati) down in Akron, then they went under. Now the closest Ducati dealers are in Columbus, Pittsburgh or Detroit!!

trooper3, yeah that story is very familiar to me :(. I knew Jeff Saltzman at Crooked River pretty well, ditto Carl at Northern Ohio. I helped with the race schools at Fasttrax and then MotoSeries in the old days at Nelsons.

Have you gotten out to Nelsons for any of the bike stuff? I've spent a lot of time out at the place .... New owners at Nelson's seem good and have made significant investments there, notable the new track surface.

The previous owner set up the bike and Racing EVO flashes when starting the bike. I still get the stop light error, and have not fully sorted that out (have been reading thru the "Conversion and Converted" thread here, but the tricks presented there havent addressed it).

1st track day is this saturday at Nelson Ledges. Yay!

A little more bike prep. Safety wire required items, check. Coolant type, check. Oil change, check. Front sag, check. Rear sag, not so good, need a stiffer spring (unit installed has no P/N, but owner gave me 95. Likely need 100 or 105 for my weight. Will try what I have and see how it goes. Suspension arm set to Flat, check. Full documentation of current suspension settings as a baseline, check. Brake pads, check. Chain tension and lube, check. General check of all important bolts, check.

Since I had both bikes, decided to check the ergo's for comparison. Handlebar to seat mid point is about 1/2 inch shorter on 1199 as compared to the 1098. The seat height from the top of the pegs was 1 inch taller on the 1199 (my knees will appreciate this). Also have a Ducati Perfromance seat which appears to add a bit more height if needed, and can lower pegs if needed. It appears, but did not measure, the seat height from the ground is higher on the 1199. I'm a tall guy, so there may be a sense of sitting more on top the 1199.

I did purchase an Armor Bodies belly pan and fit it. Curiously, the lower radiator fan can be left in place with this pan. However, the clearance between the engine, pan and muffler was nil, so I left the pan off for now. Just didnt want to deal with a smoking bit of fiberglass on the 1st outing. But will revisit soon. Would like to hit some of the local races at some point.

After doing some reading on oils recently I have purchased motul 300V as well
I previously always used shell

The track day was today. My initial response was that this is the best rack bike I have ever ridden.

The bike work flawlessly. The handling was very good. Nelson has a fair number if big bumps and the 1199 ate them up.

The switch to GP shiftig was rather easy. No issues or missed shifts.

The brakes worked awsomely ..

It took a few sessions, but I started dragging the toe sliders in all the right places. Quick upshifts were perfect.

The only things I notice:

On corners where I was leaned over near to limit, the bike became a little more difficult to keep on the line. Slight tendency to run a little wide. Will spend more time on the geometry.

I notice on a few fast straights an occasioonal missfire while at wide open throttle. Not a problem, but something I noticed. Only passed by a few riders that have historically beaten me.

I frickin love this bike.

Glad to see you enjoyed it. Welcome to the 1199 club. LOL :) I always enjoy my bike when I get the chance to ride. I have done track days a few times and thats where this bike is so much fun.

Just a quick update on the bike ... all is well and I just resealed the vertical cam cover. While there I decided to deal with the rear brake light not being there on a track bike. The suggestions of disconnecting connectrs in the right hand electronics bay did nothing to remove the check engine warning.

So, it seemed to me the issue was that the ECU was doing a check on the brake light as part of the "switch on checks" and with no rear tail light there, it was reporting a bad tail light. So I found some 1 watt 120 ohm resistors and attached one between the center contact and two outer contacts (was able to simply insert the resistor lead into the connector). 2 resistors total. Check engine warning light is now gone. The resistors take the place of the LEDs and provide the voltage drop to trick the ECU into thinking a light is there. I know there was a connector available at one time that did the same thing ... but they are long gone.

I was able tot ake my 1098 wheel set and use a spacer kit and the wheel speed sensor to get them to work on the 1199. Nice way to repurpose a set of forged wheels.

Working through a tri-colore paint scheme since all my track bikes wear that 888, 999 and 1098

Well done. The 1199 is definitely a different animal than the 1098. Love the old style, but now you just hang on. Great look, and keep the rubber side down.
