all of that added HP....here is a fun little stat: in Germany today there are more paralyzed individuals from motorcycle accidents then there were in all of WW2.

and how many dead vs. killed in WW2???

what a bullcrap statistics. what does it say? nothing.

i could start an own thread about how lack of a taste this statement is ;)

more relevant:

alcohol deaths per year
drinking and driving causes over 25,ooo deaths a year. overall 100,000 deaths occur each year due to the effects of alcohol.Correction: According to the NHTSA web site (nrd.nhtsa.dot.gov/pdf/nrd-30/NCSA/RNotes/2006/810686.pdf), there were 43,443 alcohol related traffic fatalities in 2005 in the USA. As a comparison, AIDS claimed 18,000 lives in 2003.

vs.

Annual U.S. motorcycle deaths[1]

1994 2,320
1995 2,227

1999 2,483
2000 2,897

put helmets on stupid riders heads and you get that # cut in half.

back on topic:

i want 150 kg / 250 HP bikes.

hey it's just a stat, no need to get bent out of shape. and it simply indirectly supports the not so great mortality rate per mile travelled on a motorcycle.

that's another interesting stat. it generally goes up in relation to hp.

and to focus on my sarc lack of taste is in even worse taste :D

I wonder how long it will be before some enterprising engineer or chemist figures out how to make panels out of carbon nano tubes. It is supposed to be stronger and lighter than carbon fiber.

Imagine bikes with 230hp that only weigh 260 pounds full of fluids. That would be insane...

I'm not sure what the point would be though with the speed limiter intact.

1199 has no speed limiter. The gauges go blank over 187 mph (300 kph), but it's still pulling like a freight train when that happens.

Axe me how I know. ;)

When they replace fossil fueled belching thundering music with the whirring of electric motors, that will be the last superbike I buy.

In 5 years Ducati/Audi wil be racing motogp with the DesmoDiesel producing 200hp/450torque. Demolishing the competition on 1 litre of diesel fuel.

THAT, will be way cool...

Not many paralyzed, but 60 million killed!

What a moron!

I'm going to say not likely. The recent statistics have shown that the average age of the motorcycle owner is getting older, something north of 40 IIRC. Newcomers to the sport are declining as a percentage from previous years, and the sportbike market has suffered one of the largest contractions of all motorcycle segments. 600cc sportbikes were all the rage only a few short years ago, and that market has fallen flat on its face. The MV Agusta F3 and Triumph 675R are getting all the attention, but that is press attention and if you look at the actual sales numbers of the category, they are seriously down as the weakened worldwide economy makes those bikes non-affordable.

Liter-size sportbikes are right behind, but buoyed by the older gents (like myself at 42) that can afford them and the insurance that comes with them.

Well, with the erosion of the middle class, disposable income is scarce for that 600cc Demographic Which is probably why they are ramping up marketing to those Demo's with $$$... All the college grads who were buying 600's back in the day when they got their first job.(THIS GUY!!) Well... that's a different conversation now 10yrs later wow.... :(

You also have to remember that the MotoGP bikes run race fuel, which adds a significant amount of power.

i hear what ur saying....but didnt the 1199 sell more than all models last year in such a dying sportbike market? Atleast thats what ferracci told me as well

The BMW S1000RR has the single largest market share of the literbike market. They went from obviously zero in 2009 to somewhere around 24% market share in 2.5 years with that beast of a bike. I guess I'm going to be proven wrong as HP really does sell bikes.
